Rich White Liberals CRUSH Minorities.. Again

Here in Richmond the market for inner city fixer uppers is mostly young, idealistic singles and childless couples. Lots of gays. As they become parents, you're correct, schools become a major factor. Either you pony up the 20K/year for a private school or you move. So the cycle is 6-7 years.

Many of our parents did the same thing. Mine did.

Downtown with rain, snow, and busses isn't for the 60 something hoping to retire before he has a heart attack.

Well, in this case, wealth is hypocrisy.

These new residents of Chelsea would be the first to object to segregation in Mississippi, all the while striving for a largely segregated neighborhood for themselves.

wealth is not partisan...that's the piece you are missing and failing to understand

All over the country, rich white liberals are greedily gobbling up some of the best real estate, evicting the current tenants (mostly blacks and Latinos) and rebuilding their neighborhoods into exclusive enclaves where they are no longer welcome.

This phenomenon has, or is occurring in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, and others. I found this documentary, which makes for fascinating viewing. It chronicles the changing times of the Chelsea District in NYC.

A new private school for the rich sprang up in Chelsea in 2012. The school is literally across the street from a longtime housing project, where poor black and Puerto Rican kids watch each morning as later model Mercedes Benz cars whisk the spoiled children of white liberals to their $40,000 a year school.

Now many low income black and Latino families in Chelsea are facing eviction, as the rich white liberal newcomers buy their homes out from underneath them.

In the old days it was known as land redistribution.

Watch for this trend: conglomerates are going to buy up houses in neighborhoods, they way they do apartment buildings and then lease those homes out.

It's the building of the new estates.

I think we actually agree here. Bipartisan isn't dead.

I think the documentary stated that 50% of the new developments in Chelsea are funded by foreign investment. I was never trying to claim that the developers here are liberals, only that the new wealthy residents are, and that they don't care about displacing minorities when it fits their personal objectives.

Although, the only developer who agreed to speak on camera, is a Democrat:

He is a major donor to the Democratic Party and President Barack Obama.

I get the feeling that most people commenting here didn't watch the documentary. Oh well.

It is not a bad thing to get rid of drugs, poverty and prostitution.

no, on the contrary, it is a good thing

Who's 'getting rid of drugs' here? Kids from wealthy backgrounds are also doing drugs. Haven't you heard of the prescription pill epidemic? It kills more people every year than gun crime. And as for as prostitution, that whole scene revolves around drugs. Wealthy people just don't have to turn to prostitution to pay for their drug habits. They also don't have to buy their drugs from a street dealer, they have nice doctors for that.

And now for the absurd idea that gentrification 'gets rid of poverty'.... No it doesn't. All it does is displace poor people into situations of homelessness, or having to find a new place to live. It spreads poverty to outlying areas. Giving poverty stricken areas to rich people doesn't end poverty, it just forces poor people to move elsewhere.

I think you need to take a walk in an area that has deteriorated. You need to see the girls on the walk and the pimps who pimp them

from what you are saying here you do not understand at all what we are talking about

I'm from Hayward, CA. Do you know where that is? It's 15 miles outside of Oakland. I saw everything you can think of by the time I was 8 years old.

nope, I have no idea where that is...I do not live in your country

if you have seen such deterioration you understand this has zero to do with wealthy kids doing drugs and everything to do with the physical deterioration of an area

it must be razed in order to be raised...there is no other way

yes people are moved on and that is a good thing

But most of these usurpers are rich white liberals who have no qualms about invading minority neighborhoods, and sending the poor folks to go live on modern day reservations- housing projects and low income housing elsewhere.

I'm trying to call attention to that.

It seems you are suggesting that whites shouldn't move into minority areas. That we should all just stay segregated or something. Interesting perspective.
