The Democratic Party Is in Worse Shape Than You Thought

 The Democrats are the party of wealthy urban elites and boutique minorities, most of which are hostile (to varying degrees) to rank-and-file ordinary Americans.

They can change that if they want to, but so far, they haven't shown too many signs of wanting to.

Let's not forget that (according to exit polls) Clinton won by 12 points among voters making less than $30,000 a year—53% to Trump’s 41% —and by 9 points among people making between $30,000 and $49,999.

In fact, Clinton voters have a lower avg income than either of the two populist candidates - Sanders or Trump.

Oh, well, nothing's wrong, then. Continue as you are, Democrats. The good news is that you really don't have that many more seats to lose.

Yeah... Nothings wrong, don't worry, you're doing fine... you assumptions are all correct... the Democrats have nothing at all to worry about... just keep on insulting, rioting and assaulting the common American people all the way to 2020!

That will assure your VICTORY! :2razz:

I think both sides should read this, it's a very interesting insight into all that went wrong for the DNC in 2016 and what their future potential may actually be. This isn't some right wing screed against the left, it's the left looking at itself. I found it to be quite compelling actually and I invite all who post on this thread to at least read it first. You might be surprised at some of the conclusions.

Finally, someone on the left, or at least at the NYT, gets it. Here's to hoping the DNC doesn't take Edsall's advice.

If the Democrats would go along with Trump's economic policies he can pull all of those voters above the 50K income. Then they will vote Republican as well:)

Lol how on earth did you infer that from my post???

If democrats are going to change for the better - then they best understand who is already voting for them. And that has been, and continues to be, working class Americans.

If you say so. As I said, keep doing what you're doing.

The Republicans have their own problems. Pointing to them doesn't solve the Democrats' problems. And it's the Democrats who are currently relegated to the worst electoral position in its or any national party's history, so whatever it makes you feel better to say about the Republicans, the Democrats have made themselves look quite a lot worse.

But, keep up the "whatboutism" if you like.

Want to know what's going to keep the Democrats from being politically irrelevant? Donald Trump. The gift that keeps on giving.

That is a distinct possibility. It's not enough by itself, though, especially not on a state or local level.

depends on how you want to play with the info. the dems abandoning blue collar certainly screwed them but when the repubs elect an outsider and reject other republicans they have a problem too. the times they are a changin.

DJT has only one goal in mind and thats to destroy the GOP.

The political pendulum always swings back and forth. We are stuck with two political parties. People will get tired of the GOP, and vote them out. And then the same will happen to the Democrats. It's just the way it is.

You know, there's always been that conspiracy theory that Trump was a closet Democrat/liberal/Clinton supporter who's sole purpose is to destroy the GOP and ensure a Clinton presidency...

If that's true, he failed on ensuring a Clinton presidency...LOL

Eventually. Most of the time.
