U.S. job openings hit record high; skills mismatch rising | Reuters

"The economy has already reached the nirvana of full employment. At full employment the focus shifts from worries about the demand for labor to concerns about the supply of labor," said Chris Rupkey, chief economist at MUFG in New York.

"There aren't enough workers to man the factories and stock the store shelves. The supply demand imbalance is only likely to grow worse as the baby boom generation retires."

If only a group of people, close by, wanted to come to America and work... hmm, can't think of anyone. How about you?

How about we get some fat ass Trump supporters off their couch and into the factory....or are they too stupid?

lmao calamity, I don't even know what to say.. lmao.

I don't know how much it will help, but.....

Actrually they are too smart. The alternatives to harder work help to prevent that from happening. If a part-time (20 Hours/week?) McJob or being "in training" counts as the "work" requirement to qualify for full "safety net" assistance then who would want to do more?

Since miniimal "work" plus the various "safety net" additions generate more net income than a full-time low wage job would yield and still allow plenty of time for "off the books" income (or leaisure) it would be stupid to make that transition. The basic problem is that the "safety net" pays too well to make taking a full-time low wage job seem like an attractive option.

Even if you just look at SNAP benefits alone - they go down by $0.24 for each added $1 of income; thus extra (on the books) work at $8/hour nets less than $6/hour (below federal MW) in added income. It does not take much in the way of skills to get better than $6/hour in tax free cash "working" off the books. If you own a cooler then buying a case of bottled water (approx. $0.40/bottle and a 10 lb. bag of ice to keep them cold) and selling them on a moderately busy street corner, for $1/bottle, would easily net you more than $10/hour. Add a charity, veterans, local sports or civic club T-shirt/hat and you could likely get $2/bottle which could net more than $20/hour in tax free cash and not reduce your "safety net" benefits at all.

The "if only" game? If only we had aborted fewer kids 20 years ago! ;)

No, no, no! We should have capitalized on the new market that abortion provided by opening up the gates for fetal stem cell research, and by selling any unused samples to Chinese restaurants!

So many jobs we can't even fill them all, eh? This sounds like the unStumpable Trumpable at work to me, and definitely not the result of decades-old trends in education and population growth! Hit it, DJ!

Or the companies can pay more, pay for training to account for the skills mismatch. Things they used to do for all levels just not management (training aspect especially)

Or they can just wait for robotics to come and replace drivers among others and then we will see a huge oversupply of labor and not enough jobs.

Soup? Or fried trifle?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO... This would be a perfect opertunity for OTHER populations in the U.S. to step up. Go to the poor white and black population for your workers.... instead of your illegal slave labor you progressives love.

Let the market work itself out...

I really don't get it... you people are the ones that want to raise the minimum wage... THIS IS EXACTLY HOW THAT HAPPENS ...NATURALLY!!! But, of course.... you continue to want the poor to be poor.

Without immigration, our population will decrease and so will the needed workforce to supply ourselves with goods and services. Our household size is decreasing. A large portion of the household is non-productive elderly (baby-boomers) who have had less children then their own parents. We should be welcoming immigrants. Not calling them rapists and murderers. There is no factual evidence that they are any different in their behavior than those of "us". "Robotics" are no different than "computers". People are still employed in record numbers. That is to say, employers practically can't employ any more than are employed right now. Wow. That Trump Bump had quite an effect, right?

Man, you sure thought this through. :)

Yep, once one "genius" figures out how the system works (how to work the system?) it spreads quickly to the less bright in short order.

This may also explain, at least in part, the "amazing" rise in single parent households with minor children. Two low incomes in one household may be too much to get, much less to maximize, the "safety net" benefits. One simple solution is to have that "baby daddy" disappear (he done left and moved on to lord knows where) or simply never claim their existance in the first place (I don't knows who dis baby daddy be for sure). So long as they are not present during any of the (quite rare?) social worker visits then their income is not included in the "household" income. Using a P.O. box or shared "bachelor" address works well to keep that "disqualifying" paycheck (or registered vehicle) from sharing the "safety net" receiving household address.

The African American unemployment rate is at 8% o_O.

a rise in demand for worker will increase wages... which will in turn increase the amount of people who enter the workforce...there are tons of people voluntarily out of the workforce. There are also a lot of people on minimum wage jobs that are relatively unneeded, and more job opportunities like this can in turn raise their salaries in fear of losing their employees... and if they can afford to lose their employees, than the minimum wage workers will go to a better and higher paying job.

You people??? progressives... leftists.... YOU!!!! ALL OF OF YOU! I don't know a single progressive that doesn't want the minimum wage increased... and just like a good little leftist you are, you also fall into the trap of wanting to keep a caste system of foreign indentured servants to make sure you have your cheap labor.
