A proposal to adopt a single-payer healthcare system for California took an initial step forward Thursday when the state Senate approved a bare-bones bill that lacks a method for paying the $400-billion cost of the plan. The proposal was made by legislators led by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) at the same time President Trump and Republican members of Congress are working to repeal and replace the federal Affordable Care Act.
“Despite the incredible progress California has made, millions still do not have access to health insurance and millions more cannot afford the high deductibles and co-pays, and they often forgo care,” Lara said during a floor debate on the bill.

Further in the article they have discussion on a 15% increase in the Cali income tax rate... Oh please, PLEASE Cali, do this. Embrace this monstrosity, I beg of you.

Hurray!! Welcome to the 21st century, California....well, at least your first baby steps anyway. Best of luck! :)

It would be foolish to try to do this on the State level. It'll end up attracting many more people who will not pay into the system, and eventually cause some rather big issues. If this model were to be engaged in, it would need to be done on the federal level.

Good luck indeed, please pass this, PLEASE. Higher taxes, longer wait times, doctors fleeing the state as pay drops...

I can't think of a good outcome, and it'll help doom this idiocy of "single payer healthcare" once and for all.

I bet if you took all the dollars being paid to private insurance companies in the state, and put them towards single payer you'd do pretty good.

I suspect that this is a political stunt. They must know that it's not going to happen, but it will get them some cred with their base.

Yes, because going to single payer healthcare certainly doomed it in all the other nations that tried it...oh wait.... lol...

What will the State do if they run out of money...if that 15% tax revenue isn't enough?
