In a speech delivered May 26 responding to student demands, college President*George S. Bridges*said he is “grateful to the courageous students who have voiced their concerns” about discrimination on campus.

“Let me reiterate my gratitude for the passion and courage you have shown me and others,”*Mr. Bridges*said in his remarks, as reported by student newspaper The Cooper Point Journal. “I want every one of you to feel safe on this campus and be able to learn in a supportive environment free from discrimination or intimidation.”

The speech began: “I’m*George Bridges, I use he/him pronouns.”

The president’s statement comes after a week of protests at the college, during which students have shouted down and cursed at faculty and administrators who show insufficient passion for social justice.

One professor targeted by protesters,*Bret Weinstein, was told by campus police to hold his classes off of campus out of fear for his safety.

I apologize for ranting. I just feel the need to get this off of my chest. **** like this just makes my blood boil.

So basically, this college is nothing short of ****ing crazy. I almost can't even believe this is a real story. This college has been sort of "taken over" by this mob of angry students, who are demanding a whole bunch of ludicrous nonsense, including the resignation of a professor that didn't agree with the "Day of Absence & Day of Presence" that this mob was trying to push. Which, by the way, is horribly racist. They call the professor racist because he objected to their demand, which is radically racial segregation day? Look in the mirror sometime, guys. The irony clearly hasn't hit you all yet.

These entitled morons really have some ****ing nerve. First off, the irony of this mob screaming how they're oppressed is so] rich. They took over the CAMPUS, forced a professor off of the college grounds in fear of his own safety, pushed the President around like he's a goddamn ragdoll, demand him to provide them with food, no homework; having him bend the knee to your demands. And they have the audacity to talk about how they're "oppressed"?! **** you.

Secondly, even when the Dean capitulates to their demands, they still act like total dicks to him. He's giving you what you want, you assholes! What a bunch of rude mother****ers. And he really shouldn't be doing in the first place. He shouldn't have allowed this group to take over the campus to begin with, and he shouldn't have complied to their beyond ridiculous demands, because no matter how many concessions you try to give this crowd, they will never be satisfied. Ever. Don't let the inmates run the asylum.

That's pretty much all I wanted to say. Thoughts? Comments?

I hired one of their philosophy major grads, and ended up not understanding how he ever made it beyond elementary school.

Sorry. I just can't listen to that screeching.

I think what society and our current education system has done to young people is criminal. IMO opinion, it has doomed them to failure and grief.

As an employer, I would never hire, and certainly never tolerate, the self centered BS flowing from the mouths of those shown in the videos. I can't imagine any other employer feeling differently.

So what have these children be taught? What life skills have they been provided?

A life filled with the expectation that others will bend to the rules you write for yourself will never succeed, will never flourish, and will never reach it's potential.

Is the university letting inmates run the asylum? Or responding to the whims of its customers?

The only thing I've ever heard about Evergreen University is that if you want to be able to use LOTS of drugs all the time, that's the place to go.

Agree with you that they are acting like assholes to the Dean. It's quite ok for students to voice their concerns, it is not ok to do it in a violent way and someone needs to teach these kids (since their parents obviously failed) about the courtesy of letting others speak instead of just rudely interrupting the guy every time he opens his mouth to try and answer THEIR questions. Lots of fail from the students and they all just looked like a bunch of bullies. Of course it didn't help the Dean to say he was Closter phobic either just because there were a lot of people in the room, I thought that was a little silly of him being the Dean.

Is it too much to ask for people of color to have just one day without feeling marginalized by non-physical racial violence? White people get that every day on a college campus, but PoC can't even have it for a single day?

When this counts as a reasonable demand then we are in trouble. ;)

When you have no consequences for your actions...

The real solution is that each student protesting should get a letter informing them they have been kicked out of the college, no refunds and then the police sent in to remove them for trespassing.

Would it be ok for white students to demand a "day of absense" where minorities are encouraged not to come to school that day? or do you believe one race should have more rights and say than another?

Can you get any more racist?

I don't think anyone can reasonably make the argument that minorities are marginalized at the college, when they are able to take over the campus and get the President of the college to essentially bend the knee to their demands.

Good morning, ocean515. :2wave:

I would really like to know who is behind this travesty of justice by not only condoning but encouraging this behavior to continue! :2mad: They are breaking the law governing free speech, and that should never be permitted in a free society!

I think they should just have their grades docked. If they want to protest and disrupt the college with ridiculous sit-ins, then their grades can suffer because of that.

You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Hi Polgara :2wave:

It seriously breaks my heart to see young people so thoroughly screwed by the pressure of their peers, and obviously educators, who cave to their absurd demands.

When I went to college, I had Professors who told it like it is. They didn't treat anyone like precious snowflakes. I had one Prof who said on the first day of class that he locked the door to his class when it was time to start. Miss too many of his classes, and you were failed. He said that's life, and part of my job is to get you to grasp that.

Today, they appear to be so far from that standard, I don't know what the objective of college educators is. It's certainly not to prepare someone for life after college.

The President is capitulating to the mob's demands, so you could say that he's encouraging that behavior even further.

This is such an easy problem to solve.

View the video. Identify the participants. Invite them all to a 'meeting'. Start the meeting by simply pointing to them one by one and say "You used to be a student here. and...YOU used to be a student here. And you also used to be a student here. And you. And you. And...oh yeah...you. And you. I think thats it. No...wait...you too. Well...this has been a productive meeting. Buh bye."

Good Morning, TheGoverness. :2wave:

I agree, but my main concern is WHY he is capitulating! Does he secretly agree with the troublemakers, and is he going to do like the mayor of Baltimore did during the riots there, and get on national TV and say that they should be allowed to "get it out of their system?" WTH? There were riots and destruction of innocent people's property, for Pete's sake! Of course she tried to walk back her statement when the outrage at her comments became known, but the problem was that she meant what she originally said and everyone knew it, including the troublemakers! :bs No wonder ridiculous crap like what we're seeing continues! :thumbdown

I think that they are capitulating, because they think they can reason with them, and get them to calm down. The problem is, these kinds of mobs aren't reasonable. They will never be satisfied, no matter how much you bend the knee to them.

These people need to put their foot down, instead of further encouraging this type of reckless behavior from students.

I apologize for ranting. I just feel the need to get this off of my chest. **** like this just makes my blood boil.

there is no need to apologize. You are finally starting to understand a bit where some people are coming from in their objection to this stuff.

So basically, this college is nothing short of ****ing crazy. I almost can't even believe this is a real story. From what I understand Day of Absence has been a long standing tradition of the school it was based on a play from 1968 where black actors would where white face to celebrate diversity etc...
it turns out there is a huge campus event. For some reason this year the people went stupid and demanded that white people leave which is the complete opposite of what the event is supposed to be.

These entitled morons really have some ****ing nerve. First off, the irony of this mob screaming how they're oppressed is so] rich. I probably would have sent reprimand letters to all of them saying basically that anyone else that threatens another teacher will be expelled.
but I have a no tolerance policy for that stuff. the presidents mistake was giving in to their demands. these types of people will never be placated.

what is worse is when they actually get into the real world and try this crap their boss is going to say 1 thing to them your fired see you later.

Secondly, even when the Dean capitulates to their demands, they still act like total dicks to him. He's giving you what you want, you assholes! What a bunch of rude mother****ers. but but but you can't tell them no it will hurt their feelings.

there is a reason that people come out against this nonsense.

It is easy to criticize this from your bubble of white privilege. Walk a mile in a person of color's shoes for a day and then try and tell them they're being a bunch of spoiled brats.
