Pelosi confessed ignorance of this week's disclosure that the National Security Agency for at least five years under the Obama administration systematically violated Americans' Fourth Amendment rights...

Civil liberties groups said the disclosures should factor into lawmakers' decision at year's end about whether to reauthorize the NSA collection program that witnessed the abuses...

The sheer scale of the 4th Amendment violations is staggering, as was the sternness of the rebuke of the Obama administration by the FISA court, which ordinarily approves 99.9% of the government's request.

"The ends justify the means" is the mantra of the American Elite now.

They have zero self control and honesty is rare.

We used to be better.

MUCH BETTER

I read the 4 paragraphed story and I am in the dark just as much as I was before I read it. What the story told me was sweet **** all.

As of a few minutes ago, this story had not been covered by the Washington Post, the New York Times or any of the three broadcast networks.

No ****ing kidding. How can you report a story that has less bones than a jellyfish?

I've been thinking the same. Although, there are more and more reports coming out from declassified FISA Court documents (if true then it looks like Trump is declassifying a lot of documents to show he wasn't lying about Obama) and the like that make this start to sound at least a little like it may turn out to be true. Not that I'm there yet to say it's true and accurate, but it seems to be at least possible at this point.

I just have such a hard time thinking, much less believing, that anyone, ANYONE at all, that is or was President of the United States could do this. This, if in any way true, would make what Nixon did look like kindergarten playtime.

I'm going to need a hell of a lot of proof, more than exists now, for me to believe this. But, I will try to keep an open mind as much as possible.

How many warnings have you read over the years on the dangers of the sustained practice of Secret Government?

I have seen tons, and this is EXACTLY what we were told to expect.

The media and the investigators don't give a rats ass about this deflection BS.

If Trump and his crew are dirty, and it's looking like they are, he's going down. Deflect all you want. Not going to matter.

They will continue to deny and refuse to see the truth. Only when the truth becomes inescapable will the reality sets in

He may not go down by himself, or he may not be one of the ones that goes down.

I still say the Democrats oughta be nervous as hell right now, what with the special counsel in the water.

The thing is, there only has to be a very convincing narrative of illegal spying by the Obama team, to do some real damage.

Where is the evidence supporting all this "truth" you speak of?

So far the only deflection happening in this thread is by you. The topic is the Obama administration spying on US citizens in clear violation of the law as evidenced by the FISA documents released.

I'll let YOU keep the deflection going. The people with their eyes OPEN and not brainwashed by Fox News will wait for the investigations and results of Trump and his crew's dealings with the Russians. Obama's not prez anymore.

Have a nice day.

By The by, I believe fox is losing ratings due to not covering the biggest political news story of this year

Oh that's rich. Considering that 99% of what you and your ilk run around breathlessly regurgitating with glee, as bona fide evidence that Trump is a traitor that will be arrested any minute and hanged for treason, comes from anonymous sources which are never even corroborated, let alone verified. Your rank hypocrisy is noted.

So, the Obama administrations NSA in clear violation of the law and spying on US citizens isn't news because Trump something or other ??

Lawdy

I couldn't make much sense of the article in the OP either. That said, the Snowden leaks showed the NSA have technology that passively surveils American citizens even if they are not being specifically targeted for surveillance.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/30/nsa-americans-metadata-year-documents.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MARINA
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAINWAY

And it's not just metadata they're keeping - it's content - the Obama administration has said that they only keep 'content' of people they're specifically 'targeting' but the NSA definition of 'targeting' is basically carpet bombing. Anyone who visits a certain website or uses a certain keyword becomes 'targeted' as per the NSA's definition. It's not specific at all, it's not as if a judge said to look into that person.

And as far as I'm concerned, this is bigger than any individual president. The politicians don't even know what these things are or mean.

Jacob Appelbaum said:
So this is important, because members of the U.S. Congress, they have no clue about these things. Literally, in the case of the technology. Ask a Congressman about TCP/IP. Forget it. You can’t even get a meeting with them. I’ve tried. Doesn’t matter. Even if you know the secret interpretation of Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act and you go to Washington, D.C. and you meet with their aides, they still won’t talk to you about it. Part of that is because they don’t have a clue, and another part of it is because they can’t talk about it because they don’t have a political solution. Absent a political solution, it’s very difficult to get someone to admit that there is a problem.

Oh and on July 10 2008, US Congress capitulated to the administration in granting blanket immunity to the administration and telecom industry for potentially illegal domestic surveillance. Obama wasn't president yet but he was a proponent of the bill.

NSA data-gathering deja vu for privacy hawks - Page 2 - CBS News

The administration, with the permission of telecom companies, had been tapping the phone lines of Americans without first securing a warrant. The program began in 2005, ended in 2007, and was legally justified by the administration under the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

Opponents did not buy the justification and filed dozens of lawsuits against the telecom companies, accusing them of unlawfully turning over user data to the government. To protect the cooperative companies from a series of messy legal fights, Congress passed an amendment to the 1978 FISA act absolving them of any culpability in forking over their users' data and ensuring they would not face any lawsuits that resulted.

The bill was passed during the crucible of the 2008 presidential campaign, and was supported by then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who was campaigning against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for the presidency.

Did you read the piece of **** article linked in the OP? Tell me what I missed.

And if you believe that poor Donald is such a victim in the barrage of MSN hate, then perhaps you are a victim yourself. There is quite a bit of evidence that at least people in his team committed acts that are -- in the very least -- unAmerican.
