Tourism to the U.S. Has Been in Decline Since Trump Took Office

No, you're misreading the chart. Go read the OP.
As I said, the chart ends at the demarcation between February and March, the OP does not matter
because the chart actually stops at the end of February.
And you were saying somthing about people being misleading!

How exactly is the president of the US saying he will put America first hateful. Do you think the president of Mexico doesn't put Mexico first or the Chancellor of Germany doesn't put Germany first. Why exactly should any citizens vote for someone who is not going to put their interests ahead of the interests of another country.

I get it that you hate Trump and it effects your ability to think logically as this entire thread proves but even you should be able to figure this out.

It's about whether a foreigner would be accepted here or not: if America's interests wholly supersede those of foreigners, they would do well to avoid our country.

You are very confused. The chart includes March. The link in the OP discusses this. Your willful ignorance constitutes a surrender.

So you think foreigners being here is detrimental to American citizens. Otherwise your argument makes no sense.

Furthermore the president of any country should be putting the interests of that country's citizens before the interests of and other countries citizens. To think otherwise is simply ridiculous.

No, if a nation doesn't show interest in foreigners, foreigners might not show interest in that nation.

America has long been the envy of the world, where the best of the best go. That power has been eroding for a long time, but President Trump seems to be trying to accelerate the process.

Whining about the media is irrelevant. His own words spell out his intolerance.

That intolerance has eroded our global cultural and socioeconomic power. Skilled prospective immigrants will forego moving to the US, after all, some braindead President Trump supporter might shoot them like they did to that Indian man who they mistook for a Muslim (like that somehow justifies murder).

It used to be that successful Chinese actors would eventually transition to hollywood- Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc., but not anymore.

It used to be that the United States fought for human rights and benevolent values. Now, we fire missiles at Iraq- err, Syria (sic), for political points and publicity so we can air a commercial for a resort owned by the coward in chief.

It used to be that the rest of the world could rely on a dependable, strong superpower, paving the way for innovation and global direction. Now, we're reneging on those promises of free trade and shared prosperity. Now; it's America First, a slogan surely loved by American Nazis. Increasingly, we are siphoning that power to other nations, notably China, and we have nothing to show for it.

You are in confusion! I am not at all happy about this President. But producing tons of frothy allegations and telling the world the lies and suspicions are serious is at least as bad as the President's performance.

It is you who are wrong, but lets put it to a vote!
For the sake of discussion I have added a one month white block to your graph.

I contend that the white block represents the month of July, The area being bounded by the labels July and August.
Perhaps the author drew his graph wrong by accident, but the graph ends at the end of February.

How can you claim that my observations and hypotheses are "at least as bad" as the President's performance?

Tourism to the U.S. Has Been in Decline Since Trump Took Office - NBC News

How much of our cultural capital are we hemorrhaging through our president?

Well, I suppose half a story is better than none.

Need a longer period to make a conclusion.

Yep. Someone needs to tell absentglare to take a close look at his chart. It shows the drop well under way by the time Trump took office.

Not what I meant.

1) You need a bigger sample size, both before Trump and after Trump.
2) You need point out the seasonal changes.

Both of these can only show the truth. As you pointed out, that the "slump" started before Trump took over. Now without more information it is hard to attribute this to anything. I suspect that it is seasonal. The US is not exactly known internationally for its "winter season".

Now if we had a bigger sample size historically we could easily point this out.

We also need a bigger sample size for the future... like a full year at least, but we can start to see things by comparing months where it traditionally goes up after the seasonal slump.. I believe we dont have the numbers for that .. yet.

So if the lets say June to September numbers dont show similar traits as the years before, then you can claim either a positive impact or a negative impact depending on which way the numbers are going.

In other words... lets wait til the end of the year before attributing a raise or fall in tourism to Trump.

If you were putting any actual thought into this or were willing to read the thread, you would know that his widespread support started before he took office.

How much of our cultural capital are we hemorrhaging through our president? . It would behove you to understand i'm talking exclusively about international standing that we've lost due to the cheeto in chief.
The thread title is "tourism-u-s-has-been-decline-since-trump-took-office
and the first statement in the thread is,
"How much of our cultural capital are we hemorrhaging through our president?"
Now you say there is some sort of distinction between the type of tourist.
Apart from your attempt to move the goal post by trying to refine down the type of tourist I.E. "International leisure tourism != tourism."
The opening statement by the author and yourself is incorrect.
The decline in your chart started in September, four and a half months before President Trump took office.

Are you lost? Please read the OP. It established the goalposts. Of course, you can move the goalposts yourself and then whine about how the goalposts are moved. It's just unusual because you'd be whining about your own attempt at an argument.

None of which has anything to do with putting America first.
Once again it's nothing more then your hate for Trump out pacing your thinking ability.

I can assure you that there is no issue with my argument. Perhaps your love of President Trump is "out pacing" your thinking ability.

Actually I read the OP, it still doesn't change the fact that the posted graph ends at the end of February,
or that the entire premise of the article (that tourism declined because Trump is in office) is flawed.
You graph clearly shows the decline in tourism started 4 months before Trump entered office and almost a month before anyone knew he would be President.
Of course the bigger picture is that your posted graph was cherry picked to show only the declining portion of the normal annual cycle.

If you read the OP then you know that they included data for March.

He didn't have to be president to broadcast hostility toward foreigners. He gave a megaphone to some of the ugliest parts of this country and was rewarded in both the primaries and the general.

Of course, you are desperately grasping at straws and refuse to acknowledge your error.

International leisure tourism != tourism. It would behove you to understand i'm talking exclusively about international standing that we've lost due to the cheeto in chief.

Well, I guess you will need to define for me the difference between an international tourist and in international LEISURE tourist.

Beyond that though, your chart was so short term that it did not reflect any context at all.

It did, within that meaningless time frame that you posted, show that whatever it was that you were measuring had started the decline before the 2016 election.

The decline your chart documents happens every year and has been happening every year since at least 1996.

Question: Did the Trump Effect that you seem to have conjured kick in during the fall of 1996 and affect every year following?

Has the Ninth Circus issued a ruling on this?

So now you are blaming a lull in international tourism to the US on when Trump's popularity began? :funny
I'll ignore the ad hominem.

I can assure you that there is no issue with my argument. Perhaps your love of President Trump is "out pacing" your thinking ability.

Some of that Trump support that you are whining about came from many democrats in the Rust Belt who previously voted for Barack "Hussein" Obama.

You're issuing some rather irrelevant questions. You don't debate the drop, but you contest the hypothesis.

This is an extremely stupid move on your part.

Pew surveyed citizens of 10 European Union countries last year and found that 85 percent of respondents had no confidence that Trump would do the “right thing” in world affairs. And since the election, 75 percent of those surveyed around the world for the Best Countries ranking – which came out in April – said they had lost some degree of respect for the U.S.

As a result, experts predict the U.S. will receive 4.3 million fewer visitors in this year than in 2016, in part because changes to immigration policy are making tourists feel unwelcome.
...
Each ranking drop in a country’s reputation is associated with a decrease in export volume of 2 percent.

How Donald Trump Is Ruining America's Reputation Around The World

Your hypothesis is, what, that what the President of the United States does and says has no impact on world affairs? Lol! That's laughably stupid. Of course, when he so much as farts, or pushes a world leader out of his way, it has a huge, lasting impact. That's why it's important to have a smart, considerate president. But republicans elected an asshole whose sole qualification seems to be how effective he is at trolling liberals.
