MSNBC wins cable news weekly war for first time ever

and most adults of aware of that no matter their political ideology.

Yeah, for sure....

No, but back in the day my husband, a fan of MSNBC, watched Olbermann all the danged time. IIRC, he ended every damned program with a rant!

Olberman does go ham. I think he found a good niche on the internet.. no coworkers to bicker with and bosses to undermine haha.

Media is trending towards the web anyway.

To paraphrase the Ratigan rant..

"Both Democrats and Republicans have set up a taxing structure and financial structure, that is extracting money out of the U.S. It's both of their faults, and until we fix the "bought congress" nothing will ever change."

But, with much more animation.

Did he watch Ed Schultz also? I give both of them direct assists in GOTV for Obama.

I've always believed that the incredible popularity of Tiger Woods normalized the idea of having a mixed-race POTUS, especially considering the demographic of golf audiences, on TV and on courses.

Too bad for his wife that everything fell apart in 2009 .

This is not a naturally liberal country, far from it. We're 15+ years behind on everything. But if anything will wreck the republican party and their state media for a generation, it's clinging to the sinking ship

IMO, MSNBC is more pro-corporate, pro-establishment. They stumbled into success with Olberman and Maddow, unintentionally. The people over at FOX have deeply held beliefs in their content. MSNBC is just a business. And they just hired George Will, so they can't be that left wing.

Just look at how they hated on Bernie, nonstop. I have a giant bone to pick with Chris Hayes, he gets some things right, some things wrong, and I think a multi-million dollar salary, clouds his judgment.

I'd like to see them bring back Donahue and put him in Chris Hayes' spot.

Where is Olberman? R Maddow is unwatchable after five minutes. On the right side what's up with the nepotism @ FOX, Dooshy and son, what a team. And all the skunks in short skirts, do they think they got hired because of their brains?

Olbermann works for GQ mag doing video segements there now.

Fox News did finish the week ended May 21 with the most viewers, however....

Short lived fame...fleeting...eh?

They just recently were about 1/2 of Fox's ratings. Quite a leap.

Yeah, I liked Ratigan too. Sad to see him pack it in instead of bearing through it and fighting on. But he's doing good work these days from what I've read. Trying to find and implement efficient farming for poorer communities.

Thank Trump for those ratings. <- see something positive!

Yes indeed, moderates and intelligent liberals don't sit glued to the news typically, it's often a brain drain. Its good to leave on if you are around the house and catch something here or there...or in the car repair shop waiting room, etc. But watching it all day, getting all worked up about what, on FOX anyway, is typically pure partisan bull****...is madness. And there are a lot of mad people out there. Who have all day to watch Fox news and get all worked up like the victim they are.

But in comes Trump, a virtual extension of FOX/right wing media, an avatar of the alt-right, in full detail - complete with no idea what he's talking about, cute sound bites, lies, contradictions, and inappropriate behavior. A national disgrace.

Yes, that got peoples attention, they are wondering how this nightmare occurred, and when is it going to end. I still turn FOX on every few days, and I'm shocked every, single time. It's so bad in nearly every way, that I can't believe that many people take it seriously. I use to think Daily Show and Colbert Report were exaggerating for Comedic value. No, it's so bad that Daily Show, a comedy show on comedy central, was basically a slightly more informative than FOX's entertainment lineup.

I don't watch CNN's prime time. I flip to it during the day to keep track of latest headlines, and lately to see who got a brand-new subpoena. Sad times. I'll be glad when this whole episode has been completely investigated and the facts are known, one way or the other. I wonder if I'll still be alive by then!

let's hope so. :)

i generally read Google news during the day, but i check out CNN at night sometimes when i'm cooking or something. out of all of the networks, CNN has been my choice since the 1990s, except for during a right wing / libertarian stint in the early 2000s in which i watched Fox and listened to Limbaugh and all of that. it depresses me a little that CNN has bought into the prime time opinion stuff in order to compete. i prefer the "report hard news for the most part with some clearly marked opinion shows interspersed" model, and that's how the network used to be. however, it's about ratings, and viewers don't seem to want that as much anymore. ****, i'm not perfect where this is concerned, either. i react favorably to news shows that support my opinion, too. confirmation bias is a factor for most humans.

It's about ratings AND COST. It's cheaper to pay a pundit exorbitant $'s to preach to a camera than it does to send reporters around the world to do what news is supposed to do.

One BIG Soap Opera....except for the fact innocent ppl are being massacred.... sliced and diced....its 'REAL' s*** 'for a fact jack'...like, are you, your kids, your family next...hell,
you can always try scratching their eyes out...

Anyone else remember having to hear right-wingers cooing about Fox's ratings? My my my how times have changed.

And it's all because of the political controversy that is going on with the Trump administration. People looking for what the hell is going on and Fox won't report it due to being a mouthpiece for the GOP and deflecting for them... and they are paying a price for it now.

MSNBC wins cable news weekly war for first time ever

MSNBC finished first in the key 25-54 demographic and in total viewers against its cable news rivals last week for the first time in its 21-year existence, according to Nielsen Research.

Overall, MSNBC finished second in all of basic cable, only falling to TNT, which aired several NBA playoff games.

Fox News finished third in primetime for the first time in nearly 17 years.

For the week of May 15, MSNBC's weekday prime averaged 2.440 million total viewers, with Fox second with 2.405 million and CNN third with 1.649 million.

For adults aged 25-54, MSNBC averaged 611,000 viewers. CNN finished second with 589,000 and Fox third with 497,000.

In terms of individual programs, "The Rachel Maddow Show" at 9 p.m. continued its ratings roll, finishing as the most-watched nonsports program for the week in all of basic cable.

Lawrence O'Donnell, who is still reportedly in negotiations with the network with his contract set to expire on June 4, was second overall in the cable news race for the week with "The Last Word" at 10 p.m.

CNN and MSNBC have been the beneficiaries of controversies and investigations surrounding President Trump that seemingly dictate the news cycle on a daily basis, with both networks now challenging Fox after getting decidedly beaten each year since 2001.

The last time Fox finished third for the week (Monday-Friday) was June of 2000.

Maybe this is why MSM makes **** up. To win ratings wars. Interesting.
