People who are grown ups realize that they are occasionally going to hold different opinions to others, even on issues as important as how to deal with violence in society. And of course on such important issues, discussions might get a bit heated and personal at times. But it's probably a good idea to keep some sense of perspective - to remember that the objective is to discuss and implement further solutions, if needed, not to simply promote hatred and division.

So to keep things in perspective, gun violence is a much bigger risk for Americans than Islamic terrorism is. It's also a risk which would be much easier to substantially reduce below current levels, at the cost of tighter regulations. But I have rarely (if ever) seen people in favour of stricter gun control assert that their political opposites "want to see Western civilization destroyed," or anything even remotely approaching the level of shrill hyperbole displayed in the OP and a number of posts in this thread. Moreover those accusations have come not in the midst of heated discussion, but just as straight up vicious attacks. (And indeed on a whole new level, TurtleDude has apparently decided to invoke similar rhetoric even against the folk taking a harder line on gun violence too!)

Doesn't that tell you that there is something amiss here?

If the root cause was the Muslim religion, there would be no moderate Muslims. I know several personally to know the right is full of ****. You don't offer ANYTHING but hatred and vitrol.

The other day I was thinking of all the advantages of moving to a Muslim country over living here. The way they treat their women equally is so wonderful we should adopt their ways for this country. :thumbs:

No refugees in Muslim countries either. They have all left. I hear there houses and property are for sale cheap. I hear a unicorn ranch is the way to make a living in these wonderful Muslim countries.:lamo
 
I have not seen the left deny that terrorism exists. It seems to me that because they choose not to blame Islam many people are pretending that they somehow support terrorism. If Islam is the reason terrorists kill than why do we have so many peaceful Muslims? Maybe everyone should investigate the real issues as to why terrorism happens instead of looking for an easy scapegoating a religion. We can't successfully take down these terrorist groups if we only view them as Muslims.

I'm not convinced that there really are any moderate Muslims. If moderate Muslims were the driving force that you claim, why haven't they banned together to exterminate the terrorists?
