How to eat steak is one issue in which I am in total agreement with President Trump and I am not ashamed to admit it.
https://www.eater.com/2017/2/28/14753248/trump-steak-well-done-ketchup-personalityA person who won’t eat his steak any doneness but well is a person who won’t entertain the notion that there could be a better way; a person who blankets the whole thing in ketchup (a condiment that adds back much of the moisture, sweetness, and flavor that the overcooking removed in the first place) is always going to fix his problems by making them worse. A person who refuses to try something better is a person who will never make things good.
Since we seem to be taking this thread in a political angle:
All depends on the cut.
a Prime rib, rib steak, etc, needs to be mid rare to render the fat.
a filet can be black and blue, up to mid-rare.
Sirloin mid rare, top sirloin rare.
South american traditions often cook to well done, picahna, argentinian paradilla, etc. which can be just fine. It's not a big deal if I think anything past mid-rare is blasphemy, it's what you like.
Plus, ordering a $200 steak well done, then smothering it in ketchup to the horror of all those in attendence could be very fun,.
