lol...my wife pointed this behavior out to me over the weekend. Now, someone actually wrote a piece about it.

The ugly truth behind Saudi Arabia's love for Melania Trump (opinion) - CNN.com

The fact that Melania is communicating with the media and the public in Saudi Arabia -- mainly through what Saudi news reports have deemed her "classy and conservative" fashion choices -- works well in the notoriously anti-woman kingdom. Her intense appeal makes sense, considering the first lady represents so much that Saudi citizens find familiar and can relate to, especially visually. Melania walks behind her husband, is quiet and reserved, does not make obvious demands (at least not ones we can hear), and most importantly, she looks beautiful and polished.

All of that should come as no surprise, given whom Melania is married to. After all, how the Saudi government likes women to behave is similar to how Donald Trump has said he likes women to behave. And they both prefer women to look pretty in pictures, rather than hold actual positions of power.

Is that like Bill Clinton carrying a bible into church during his photo op's so he could "dog whistle" to the religious left?

Was the bible walking three steps behind him, looking all timid with its head held down?

From the article:

'The headscarf should be the least of the Trump family's worries, because the Saudi press have embraced Melania (and to a related but lesser extent, Ivanka) for basically doing for the kingdom what they do for Donald Trump: Provide the perfect cover for misogyny and tyranny by being beautiful, poised and often silent.
In Melania, the Saudi press and the Saudi government found the perfect spokeswoman, who projects a glamorous image that glosses over one of world's most autocratic and oppressive regimes.'

Exactly.

Everything about this trip stinks of misogyny, stupidity and hypocrisy. And the fact that Trumpbots seem to be eating it up with a spoon speaks VOLUMES about what the morals and ethics of them are.

If either Melania or Ivanka later claim to be championing women's rights - I hope a woman slaps them hard across their face.

It makes me sick that the Trump trip completely glossed over the horrific way the Saudi Royal Family treats most of it's citizens and especially it's women.

And Melania and Ivanka had a chance to help out the horrific way women are treated over there and say something - ANYTHING - against this treatment. Instead, these two selfish bitches seemed to care less.
They make me sick.

And forget that incredibly token money the Saudi's gave to the international woman's whatever organization. All it is is 1) a cheap way ($100 million is NOTHING to the Saudi Royal Family) to get the press off of their backs; and 2) I guarantee you much of it will go into politicians/bureaucrat's pockets in the form of kickbacks.

Donald-I-grab-******s-Trump is a stupid, disgusting pig and his 'women' are self-centred, ignorant bitches.

Once again, I have ZERO loyalty to any political party or movement.

The proper role of any decent human being is to point out when they are in a country where horrific treatment of civilians and especially women is going on.

Trump's selfish bitch wife and daughter should have said something - ANYTHING - against the horrible way Saudi women are treated.

But no - these stupid bitches said nothing but support and show great respect to the horrible Saudi Royal Family.

'Women’s and Girls’ Rights

Saudi Arabia’s discriminatory male guardianship system remains intact despite government pledges to abolish it. Under this system, ministerial policies and practices forbid women from obtaining a passport, marrying, traveling, or accessing higher education without the approval of a male guardian, usually a husband, father, brother, or son.'

And if you disagree - you are wrong. Not maybe...100% for certain.

I usually don't drag the wife along when I go to accept billions of dollars from people who behead, stone or beat women for minor offenses. But, hey. That's just me.

Trump's stated foreign policy has revolved around nations doing their own thing as long as that thing isn't harming America or her allies. His domestic policy has been rather similar.

The Riyadh speech seems to have been more of a call for team building rather than team leading and it is, in my opinion, a refreshing change.

That would have accomplished what? What did Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton say or do while in Saudi Arabia that was so very different and what did that accomplish?

That must mean that you are exactly equally outraged with Hillary's pay-to-play getting millions from the Saudi's for the Clinton Foundation, right?

I didn't vote for Hillary. So, obviously I was not too pleased with her either.

That is just down right despicable to say of two women just because you dont like Trump being president.

What did Michelle or Hillary say about these abuses when they traveled to SA?

If I ever were President, I'd probably leave my wife out of this stuff whenever I can.

She doesn't like it, so why force her? IRL, rather than put her through this kinda stuff when it comes up in business or other higher-end social obligation, I just do it myself. She's happy, I'm happy if she's happy, and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks. Our internal happiness is my priority concern, not our external appearances.

Leaving the First Lady at home might not be that easy in a President's life, but I'd try to do it.

To be fair, the Saudi's are in fact modernizing their social values. It's not something that can be done over night, it's going to take some time.

Some are saying that not insisting that Melania and Ivanka wear the Hijab, being treated as equals, is an example to the rest of their society. Saudi women are getting the right to drive. Yes, tangible progress.

Now, if you want to really draw attention to the most women and LGBT abusing Muslims, that'd be ISIS, Daesh, etc. etc. The Islamist groups.

A) their behavior has nothing whatsoever to do with Trump being POTUS - what a silly thing for you to say. They could have gone by themselves and I would have said the same thing.

B) I am pleased you think it is 'down right despicable' what I typed. If you give me a few minutes - I am sure I can think of some more adjectives that you would be even more put off by.

C) If/when Michelle/Hillary made the same trip and said nothing against the SRF - the same goes for them as what I said about those stupid bitches Ivanka and Melania (except I don't think Michelle/Hillary are as stupid as Melania or Ivanka).

Have a nice day.

It really is!

I have to admit, I was holding my breath during his speech, terrified he'd put his foot in his mouth over something ridiculous. But IMO that's the most "Presidential" I've seen him so far.

Major social change doesn't happen overnight, especially in places like Saudi. Rather than take a *bull in a china shop* approach, I'm actually impressed with the subtlety. I wish his administration would try that angle more frequently.

You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar! ;)
