Of course, they now lie and say, "We were just joking."

GOP Majority Leader last year: Trump is on Putin's payroll | MSNBC

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) isn’t known as an accomplished legislator, but once in a while, he makes headlines for accidentally blurting out the truth. In 2015, for example, the GOP leader admitted on national television that his party’s committee to investigate Benghazi conspiracy theories was created to undermine Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign...

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.
It's on tape.

As for where that tape came from? Rumor has it...

If it was just a simple unfunny joke, I really don't see why they initially denied that it ever happened to begin with.

At what point does the rest of America stand up and give the finger to all these Trump apologists who try and pretend that any times it hits the fan - it was all a joke in the first place?

I can...IF it was a joke, it's not likely something they remembered a year and a half later and certainly it's not something they want someone to use to fuel more speculation.

I can believe it was a joke, though it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they actually felt that way.

My take is that it was something they speculated...but, Ryan made sure it would go no further. And, that is not good.

Boy, that is drivel. There are so many good stories around. Why choose a piece of false muck.

Have to agree with you. Dredging the biased cesspool the news media has become.

A major new study out of Harvard University has revealed the true extent of the mainstream media’s bias against Donald Trump.
Academics at the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy analyzed coverage from Trump’s first 100 days in office across 10 major TV and print outlets.
They found that the tone of some outlets was negative in as many as 98% of reports, significantly more hostile than the first 100 days of the three previous administrations:

Most interesting to note that Fox News is closest to 50% / 50%.

lol...in what universe is Fox pushing the least negative tone of all news outlets? Now, that's funny.

I see you reject Harvard University study results that don't fit your narrative, ideology, etc. etc.

The interesting thing is Rep. McCarthy mentioned two people while making his off color commentary. You don't do that unless you seriously believe it's true on both counts.
