Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is among the candidates President Trump is considering for FBI director, the White House said Wednesday.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Trump is meeting in the afternoon with the ex-Connecticut senator and three other possible replacements for ousted FBI Director James Comey at the White House.

Unlike past FBI directors, Lieberman has no experience as an FBI agent or as a federal judge or prosecutor. The Democrat-turned-Independent was Connecticut attorney general before being elected to the Senate in 1988.

Lieberman endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump is also meeting with acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating (R) and former FBI official Richard McFeely.

Keating worked as an FBI special agent before entering politics.

The administration has been interviewing candidates in recent days to replace Comey amid continued fallout over the FBI chief's firing early last week.

Lieberman? LIEBERMAN!?

Trump can not be seriously considering Lieberman for FBI Director.

I don't know, why not? The Directors job is basically coordination between it, the congress, the president and other federal and state agencies. Along with presenting and fighting for the FBI budget. The Director doesn't investigate. Lieberman would probably get support from both parties. Then again, it may be a case of more Democrats supporting Lieberman than Republicans. Who knows?

At least Lieberman is honest, trustworthy and is one who would put nation over politics. At least he has a history of that. I may be one of a few who hasn't gotten too upset with Comey's firing. Only last year both parties wanted Comey gone. Even the likes of Reid, Schumer and Pelosi referred to him as a pawn for the Republicans. Seems to me the Democrats are trying and succeeding in making political hay being against something they wanted all along.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Lieberman becoming Director.

trump political false flag misdirection ?

If Trump wants to offer the FBI an olive branch, which he doesn't, he would promote from within the bureau.

FOX NEWS comments are trashing Lieberman from all directions, mostly from the far/alt right .

You know, I'm still pissed that he was the hold-out vote that killed the Public Option in the ACA.

But I think I could get behind him.

He has no experience at all in the FBI, and his law firm has represented trumps buissness records

Agreed.

He should let the acting Deputy Director serve, if he's otherwise fit.

I wasn't aware of the bolded, but he would otherwise seem a reasonable neutral pick. At least in terms of political figures.

Obviously a non-political figure would be better.

Party politics again. How I hate that. The man, any man for any post should be considered on his merits. Not that he peeved off the Democrats or peeved off the Republicans at sometime or another. Heck, Lieberman voted the Democratic Party line as an independent anyway. He is much like Sanders and King. Independent in name only, Democrat in his and their hearts.

A law firm that represented Trump at some time or another. I know nothing about that. But it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the Democrats would be against anyone that watched his show. I have become more of a mind that all this polarization and hate for the other major party by the other, that both major parties have to go, quickly be placed on the trash heap of history if this nation is to survive. There's no doubt in my mind that each major political party worries and does things only for the good of the party, not the nation or anything else. I feel like I am living in the last day of Rome, only the enemy isn't outside the walls, it is inside.

Mr. Lieberman has no experience in the FBI. No position within it or any association with it.

Okay, but what does it take to be a good coordinator? That is the Director's job. Leiberman knows Washington and its inner workings. I think if Joe saw or knew of something wrong Trump was doing, he would have his agents investigate and keep the pertinent committees informed. It's not his job as Director to prosecute, the DOJ and AG have that responsibility. He would just have to coordinate, oversee the overall operations of the FBI, for that Lieberman can either hire or have experienced men around him. He can delegate as long as he is kept informed. Given time, Lieberman is a quick leaner, then he can grab the bull or the FBI by the horns.

I would trust Joe more than Keating anyway. The other two I know little to nothing about.
