Whenever something isn't going Trumps way, he tends to send out a diversionary tweet. This is exactly what he did with the "Obama wire-tapping" claims when the "heat" got turned up over Flynn's foreign activity.

As such, it is very likely that Trump is doing the same thing with the claim of taping conversations with Comey. It is obvious at this point that Trump thought the firing of Trump would be an overwhelmingly popular move. Once again, Trump's political instincts were dead wrong. As a result, he once again needed a diversionary story for folks to focus on.

Nothing Trump does will be a popular move - especially with left-wing political hacks. He could come out tomorrow and declare massive, strict gun control in the country and they would immediately become 2nd Amendment defenders. And idiot right-wing hacks would defend him.

That is likely not too far from the truth. Trump wants to spend more and tax less which used to be taboo for a republicant.

That particular diversion ("I may be recording") doesn't strike me as one of The Donald's brighter moves. And suspect he didn't realize the potential ramifications. If he WAS recording the conversations it really is a pretty big deal. Subpoenas and the such pending.

And if he WASN'T recording those conversations he is likely going to have to publicly fess up that he was in fact just trolling.

I'm a life long conservative.....but that fella just makes me nervous.

There is no WAY he thought firing Comey would be popular. The man is not an idiot.

Maybe he (Trump) didn't think it would be popular, but do believe he greatly underestimated the degree/amount of backlash the firing would generate.

You could not underestimate the degree/amount of leftist backlash of every breath The Donald takes.

He simply isn't use to this type of scrutiny. He isn't mentally or psychologically strong enough to handle it.

Sorry. Trump had already admitted that he was surprised by the negative reaction to the Comey firing.........:)

There is no way Trump thought firing Comey would be popular. Trump has done NOTHING that is "popular."

He's reactive. He made that comment in the interview with Judge Janine. So his comment about having a tape isn't something that can really be believed.

Wait...did I miss something? When did Trump make a claim of taping conversations with Comey? All I've seen is this tweet from him:

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump May 12

James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

Unless you can provide me with something else about some "claim", I'm going to have to judge your thread to be fake news.

Sorry about that.
