There are voice recordings...

Well you can bet I have no objections.

Works for me so long as you say the same irrespective of who the President is, and I assume that you do.

Why would he want to erase them?

First ask yourself why he refused to talk about them in his interview, and why Spicer refused to confirm or deny their existence.

Oh, well you were able to google a Sun Tzu quote, so I guess we're all kind of screwed.

Yup.

Additional information is always dangerous to those who don't want it.

So now we have yet another conspiracy theory?

I thought it was just the Russians. Now there's this. What else is coming?

True. And?

And I have zero doubt that Trump only just learned that particular fact immediately following his tweet.

Washington DC is a one-party consent state. Those who think the POTUS isn't recording EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION he has, are naive. I would be amazed if every president did NOT do this. Recording phone conversations, Oval Office conversations, and every interaction the POTUS has with others via a body mike. It's a matter of national security.

Any thoughts?

It would amaze me if they weren't. It would also amaze me if the conversations were not monitored in live real time.

SS is 20 ft away from "private" presidential conversations, and they should be.

Nice deflection. And by "nice" I mean "stupid and pathetic."

Again...why would Trump suddenly clam up about the existence of recordings?

Did he make more than one comment about recordings?

I doubt that. President Trump is a lot of things. Stupid is not one of them.

Yes, he's not stupid, because publicly threatening the ex director of the FBI with secret recordings was so clever.

Trump: I Am The State, I Am The Boss – Talking Points Memo

"The President is now publicly blackmailing Comey with “tapes” that are almost certainly fictitious. On the off chance they do exist and confirm Trump’s version of events rather than Comey’s they would probably land Trump in even more trouble since they would be taped evidence of the President seeking assurances of safety from an investigation and one of nation’s top law enforcement officers offering such assurances. That would be very bad for Comey but even worse for Trump. After all, Comey doesn’t have a job to lose."

Comey has a reputation to lose. And anyone who doesn't think those tapes exist is a fool.

Fun fact: those recordings are the property of the United States.

Point being? And why do you assume that when I record a phone conversation I have with a business associate, that recording "belongs" to my employer? Doubtful.

Oh, come on--don't you read many of the posts here at DP and realize that some people would not?!

Comey has a reputation to lose. And anyone who doesn't think those tapes exist is a fool.

And naturally Trump has no reputation left to lose. That said, if I had to gamble on who'd come out looking the worse in such a conversation, I know where my money's going.

Oh, come on--don't you read many of the posts here at DP and realize that some people would not?!

I'm not some people. I'm me. I would have thought by now that my good looks and charm would have set me apart from the rabble.

Because of the Nixon Watergate stink that surrounds the very idea of secretive taping, I highly doubt if any sane rational thinking President would have a taping system.

Would Trump do it? Sure as he does not qualify.

Do I think he has done so? No. Even Trump would not be that incredibly stupid.

Or would he?

How can you think you're so right and stillbe wrong? Presidents have been surreptitiously recording conversations for over sixty years. Why would they not??

Is there some reason we should assume you're subject to the Presidential Records Act? Otherwise what is the significance of your question to this issue? The Trump Tapes are public property.

Point being? And why do you assume that when I record a phone conversation I have with a business associate, that recording "belongs" to my employer? Doubtful.

That depends on the employer, and when the employer is the American people and the employee is the President of the United States, Federal recording keeping laws say that any such recordings are the property of the United States.

This too shall pass, and the left will come up with tomorrow's President Trump crisis.

Trump will create that crisis for himself. And it will, as usual, have been entirely unforced.
