Since old Henry was in the news today, let's talk about the man a bit.

First, I was surprised he is still alive. And, I can see why. Dude is about to turn 96.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Kissinger

Nice biography he has: escaped Nazis in Germany to eventually become Secretary of State and National Security Adviser in the USA. Served from 1969 to 1977, and is still one of the most sought after experts on world affairs by US presidents, as Trump showed us today.

That being said, the man is certainly hated about as much as he is loved. It just depends on who you ask.

My memories of Henry Kissinger's time in the spotlight are mostly positive. But, I've read enough negative information about him over the years since to wonder if perhaps the damage done by him doesn't outweigh the good.

Hence, I thought this thread might be a good discussion to share our various opinions on Mr Kissinger.

The man is a war criminal with the blood of likely millions on his hands.

Why would anyone hate him?

Uh, see post #2.

I saw it. But that has more to do with a faulty interpretation of events than with anything to do with the doctor.

Perhaps.

I've read accounts too which suggest Kissinger double-crossing Assad's father led to the suicide bomber. Something to do with him making Sadat the most important figure in the Middle East after promising Assad that role led to a lot of problems.

Kissinger was simply a Nixon "lackey" who was always positioning himself for more influence and recognition. He looks right at home sitting next to the nearest thing that we have seen to a "Nixonian" type of POTUS since Nixon himself.

He lost me when he was fawning over Palin in 2008.

I agree completely. The fact that he was never brought to trial invalidates the international court of justice.
