Are Conservatives just chronically insecure?

Zac Brown Band returns country roots on new album 'Welcome Home' | Fox News

You know that one country song about the small town boy who ain't never going to leave because he loves god, fishing, cold beer, country girls and he don't care what any city folk think?

Oh wait that's right...That's like basically every country song of the last three decades. Every summer they just keep regurgitating another version of that exact same song, with a different pretty eyed country boy, and every year it's a hit. How can anybody stomach that garbage?
Odd, that's what I ask about the endless parade of pop breakup songs ;)

Anyway... It doesn't interest me, but it's relatively harmless. It's just an escapist / nostalgic fantasy for Nü Country Music fans.

Basically conservatives love country music because they are insecure, and need to be constantly told they're not inferior.
meh

Insecurity isn't a partisan trait. Neither is breaking out the Fear Card.

I really think that virtually every Trump supporter in rural America is suffering from some form of massive inferiority complex.
Well, lots of rural residents didn't vote for Trump, so....

There is some cultural backlash against the coastal mindset, to be sure. However, Trump was not raised on an Indiana farm, and did not pull himself up by his bootstraps. He's a New York real estate guy, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

His voters, for the most part, want him to provide jobs. I suspect that is a big part of his support, such as it is.

I think this is also where the popularity of Fox News and conservative talk radio comes from.
...except they are also big city, coastal / New York types. Heck, Fox News' studios are in NYC; the Murdochs are incredibly wealthy globe-trotters; Limbaugh even tried to move to NYC.

Sure there are liberal leaning news sources, but they generally don't do well in the ratings because liberals generally don't need to watch them.
Or:

Fox is the primary TV news outlet for conservatives and Republicans. CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS etc split the center / center-left, and combined have a slightly larger audience than FNC.

How do we help rural conservatives deal with their insecurities so they don't continue to let them destroy the country? How do you help someone who finds the concept of help offensive even though they clearly need it?
I'm pretty sure that talking down to them, and suggesting they're idiots who need to be told what to think, isn't going to do it. It is a pretty good way to get a detailed view of their middle finger, though.
