In an election of philosophically opposing candidates - that has been categorized as very similar to our recent election - the "Trump-like" candidate loses by a very large margin. Such a large loss begs the following question: Given that Trump's election was the combination of a "perfect storm" of sorts, I find myself wondering if the French voters took a look at the actions and behavior of post-election Trump and decided that they wanted no part of electing an individual like that running their country?

Trump is not popular and not respected in Europe and that includes France. Why in the name of all things holy would any democratic nation want to follow the unstable and dangerous path the US has taken?

The only difference between the French election and our election is the electoral college

In the articles I read on Macron's big win, the U.S. election was mentioned as a factor.
They saw just how ****ty it was, so they smiled and elected a moderate.

No doubt the French are saying VIVE LA DIFFERENCE. That damn Electoral College screwed this country big time.

The French elected their own Obama, and they did so at the worst possible time in their history - Western liberal weakness is not only no defense against the Islamic invasion, it’s a friend and ally to the Islamic takeover.

Today, Muslims all over France are celebrating.....

This is the end of France.

People like you don't get it. France isn't interesting in a return to the bad old days of Vichy France.

Macron ran on a platform of selling out the French interests in favor of corporate cronyism and establishment status quo while promising to sacrifice the blood of French children to Islamic Terrorists. I'm not surprised he won big. This is the same country that collaborated with Nazi's to murder Jews.

I agree. The actions of the twit n chief probably scared a lot of people in France from voting for the wing nut.

Of course you think that. Because you want to think that. You aren't French. You know no one in France and no nothing of either candidate except a few tidbits you were spoon fed on MSNBC

And yet, the vast majority of Muslims fought for and supported the allies. There were thousands of Muslims in French colonial units, for instance, and very discreet ones from Central Asia who were in the Red Army. That's not even mentioning Muslim troops fighting for the British Raj.

One whackjob mufti changes none of that.

For example.

Your historical ignorance is truly astounding.

And if you think the winner is anything but awful for France...you are dreaming.

Sure, he is better than the alternative.

But he is an absolutely horrible choice as well.

But no...all anyone seems to see is that the scary candidate lost. They don't seem to notice or care that the one who 'beat' her is almost as bad (in different ways).

The populist was smashed. The problem for civil society is to work out how she came as close as she did.
