Trump Tells Australian PM: ‘You Have Better Health Care Than We Do’ – Talking Points Memo
Is Trump actually for universal, one payer health coverage or didn't he really know what kind of health care system Australia had? With him it is hard to say since he often says things to make people he meets "like" him. I often wonder if he was not liked by others when he was young and that makes he now need people now to like him.

Trump is for winning. It doesn't matter what he wins, he just wants to be on the winning team. He doesn't care about health care or what form the system takes, he just wants to be able to say that he succeeded in changing it.

He said he was for universal health care.

He is correct that Australia has a better health care system than we do. The WHO agrees with him.

Unfortunately, he changes direction faster than a weather vane. All he wants to do now is save face by showing that he can repeal and replace Obamacare, even if it's replaced with something far worse.

It would be cheaper to let him have his "victory" by starting to build the Great Wall of Trump.

Everyone has the right to change their mind. I have many times whenever I come across new information that shows my original position isn't right. This isn't the first time Trump has been for a more liberal healthcare system.

Conservative columnist: Trump once backed single-payer health care | PunditFact

"I’m a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one," Trump wrote. "We should not hear so many stories of families ruined by health care expenses. We must not allow citizens with medical problems to go untreated because of financial problems or red tape."

When he turned to how the country might achieve universal coverage, Trump focused like a laser beam on a Canadian-style, single-payer plan. He said it would eliminate many billions of dollars of overhead.

"The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than America," he wrote. "We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan, as many individual states are doing."

Trump says anything that pops into his pinhead he thinks will make him popular with whoever he's greeting.

Actually and ironically, much of what he says comes out later as kinda truthful. Just about everybody in the western world has better healthcare than America since our federal government began messing in healthcare and violating the 10th amendment. Before that, America had the best healthcare on planet earth.

I find it interesting that cons now find what they once called a Dem Flip-flopping being flexible. I guess for cons it depends on who is changing their mind. That is probably why I think of cons being even more hypocritical than Dems. And it seems that being flexible for Trump means changing his mind about every two seconds depending on who he is talking to.

He was for single payer during the campaign. The only reason I think he is pushing AHCA is because he views it as part of his responsibility as a republican president. It is a republican program, and just like any businessman, Trump is trying to promote it no matter how bad it is. His support of the AHCA is less to do with his beliefs on healthcare, and more to do with his desire to sell something to people.

You have to remember that Trump is not an ideologue. So he is not opposed to universal health care. He will support what will work and what will pass. That is why democrats should get over their hatred and use this guy to achieve some of the goals they seek.

But as to his comment about the Australian health care system being better than ours, hes right. Every health system is better than ours--not because socialized medicine is the superior system but because our mish-mash is so terrible.

For Trump, everything is a negotiation. He has no firm principles to flip flop on.

The press secretary when asked about that yesterday or the day before explained that he was saying Australia's healthcare system works for them. With about 3 million more people than the State of Florida, their situation is much different from a country of 330 million people. Also their immigration policy is to admit people who already speak English, who possess marketable skills, and who are healthy. What works for them is not necessarily workable here.

Nobody knows what Trump is for. Not even Trump.
