That Trump identifies with Andrew Jackson does not surprise me. Both saw themselves as the "people's president." Both have a knack for connecting to our worst instincts. And both certainly stood against the political class as they fought to represent the average white man. Of course, both didn't give much of a **** about anyone who is non white. So, Trump probably is the closest thing we've had yet to an Andrew Jackson.

Now the questions.

Can an anti-establishment president be detrimental to the nation or is the opposite true?

Is a president who appeals to the racist nature of the average white man a good thing for the US?

What will be Trump's Trail of Tears?

(1) Yes and yes. Anti establishment can be good or bad.

(2) What the hell you talking about. Average white man and average black man are myths.

(3) It's already started. The trail of tears is just liberals crying because they lost.

1. Yes. Especially when that president does not even pretend to understand the role of the office, caters his speech to his supporters, demeans the office and members of Congress, the Judiciary and the Press, for starters.

2. NO.

3. Deportations, the "Wall", banning Muslims, denying entry of refugees.

Detention camps holding immigrants are degrading rapidly. I would not be surprised to hear of a human catastrophe occurring in one or several of them during the next few years.

The Trump Trail of Tears.

Locking up millions of detainees in barbaric conditions for the civil offense of entering the US illegally.

You're correct. We should have made sure the detainees stayed where they came from.

Is illegal border invaders the point of this thread? Or are you starting a new thread at post 7?

Actually the trail of tears... the cherokee won the SCOTUS decision. Jackson went against it saying his infamous quote, "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!"

Soooo... I guess 4,000 dead cherokees is just, "liberals crying because they lost."

If Trump wants to be like Jackassson he should pay back the Debt.

Jackson was the only President so far to pay back current balance of Louisiana purchase.

Except, if my history is correct, he paid it back by selling off Indian land to individual investors. So...kind of like robbing Peter to pay Paul, IMO.

Just because they are here illegally does not mean we should treat them inhumanely. Or does your Jesus have a separate requirement for undoing to others when they are undocumented?

Is this what he did?

Well, at least he didn't spend it all on social programs.

Selling off federal lands was a big part of it. The other big move was to break up the national bank and require cash or gold for all future land purchases, which probably triggered the Depression that followed his two terms in office.

I was referring to Calamity's trail of tears.

Jackson he ain't.

I don't have a Jesus. Knew a Mexican with that name once. Does that count?

Is this going to be your new subject?

Holding facilities have been ****holes for years.

Where have you been? It's only a problem now that President Trump is in office?

They have the option to stay in their home country.

What would Jesus do?

Yeah, that might be a good approach to countering some of the idiotic things that Trump proposes.

Trump (in all his controversial glory) was needed to shift the direction of the nation.

He will probably not be re-elected, but he will serve a purpose.

He's a wake-up call.

Listen to it.........and wake up.

Uh, I believe the ones in the camps have already crossed that proverbial bridge.

Oh, he's woken us up alright. Until Nov 8, most of us thought Archie Bunker was just a fictional character and not our national mascot.

We're all better for it.

People need to go back to their supervisors to clear up the meme about "civil offense of entering the US Illegally."

Is it a Crime to Enter The U.S. Illegally? - AllLaw.com

Criminal Penalties

For the first improper entry offense, the person can be fined (as a criminal penalty), or imprisoned for up to six months, or both. For a subsequent offense, the person can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years, or both. (See 8 U.S.C. Section 1325, I.N.A. Section 275.)

But just in case that isn’t enough to deter illegal entrants, a separate section of the law adds penalties for reentry (or attempted reentry) in cases where the person had been convicted of certain types of crimes and thus removed (deported) from the U.S., as follows:

(1) People removed for a conviction of three or more misdemeanors involving drugs, crimes against the person, or both, or a felony (other than an aggravated felony), shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.

(2) People removed for a conviction of an aggravated felony shall be fined, imprisoned for up to 20 years, or both.

(3) People who were excluded or removed from the United States for security reasons shall be fined, and imprisoned for up to ten years, which sentence shall not run concurrently with any other sentence.

(4) Nonviolent offenders who were removed from the United States before their prison sentence was up shall be fined, imprisoned for up to ten years, or both.

What’s more, someone deported before a prison sentence was complete may be incarcerated for the remainder of the sentence of imprisonment, without any reduction for parole or supervised release.

(See 8 U.S.C. Section 1326, I.N.A. Section 276.)
