We can argue and fight and disparage until we are blue in the face and nothing will change. Every elected official begins the re-election process as soon as he/she has secured the current election. I have been around since the Eisenhower administration and maybe I missed something. I have never heard of an elected President begin his re-election campaign shortly after taking the office. Until the money is removed/regulated, (yeah, dream on) nothing will change. I hold out no hope for change, thoughts?

Money equals access, access equals power, and power corrupts always.

However, sending better quality people to Washington would help tons.

The ones we have now mostly suck bad.

Advertising works and it can be quite expensive. Fixing "the system" without regulating political speech (violating the 1A?) is a tough nut to crack.

So long as SCOTUS supports the corruption of the government you are right.

You would certainly want the best people in DC. Of course, we would have to decide on what is best. That is not always easy.

PS:Maybe power corrupts less than it changes one's perspective.

;)

Our system has become "Disaster Corporatism." Corporate Personhood enshrined by Citizens United in the Supreme Court put the final nail in the coffin. Individuals and Companies are personally liable for their actions. Businesses become Corporations to insulate from personal liability. Now these Big Money behemoths control gov't policy but without fear of personal liability. Ergo, any disasters in their wakes, like millions of tons of Nuke fuel rods and/or contaminated facilities are not their problem and that is just one example. Mussolini stated that fascism/corporatism are the same thing. I agree. We are in deep doodooo.

Ya, from working for the people to working for themselves.

Perhaps you should look at Patty Murray (your senior Sanator) who has never worked a private job. Her campaign spending (so far) was about $45 million.

From what I have seen she is a good example of a person who started out working for us, who had the best of intentions, but turned to the Dark Side, and is so clueless that she does not even know.

Granting direct financial influence over politicians to entities which are not their voting constituents is the very definition of corruption and perversion of the electoral process.
