"Total Chaos" - Cyber Attack Feared As Multiple Cities Hit With Simultaneous Power Grid Failures | Zero Hedge

The cause of the outage has not yet been made clear, though given the current geo-political climate it is not out of the question to suggest a cyber attack could be to blame. It has also been suggested that the current outages could be the result of a secretive nuclear/EMP drill by the federal government.

I don't buy the government EMP drill theory, but I would not be surprised that a foreign player is responsible. And I'm glad.

It's time we get a wake up call before someone who knows what they are going really gets in and brings some of the media pushed nightmares of "What would happen if..." to our warm and fuzzy personal bubbles.

Zero Hedge is a bit conspiratorial for my tastes, but they seem to be the only people talking about the obvious: There are a lot of power outages. In the San Francisco Bay area, it is very temperate. It's fairly mild weather, and I haven't heard anything about solar flares, but what ever it is, I don't believe it's coincidence.

Feel free to ignore the "Prepper Bonus Content"!

Actually, it was mechanical failures.

Power Outage Affects 88,000 PG&E Customers in San Francisco, Causes Transit Delays | NBC Bay Area

PG&E officials said an overloaded circuit breaker malfunctioned at the Larkin substation, sparking a fire in the insulation. The fire caused a series of outages beginning at 9 a.m. PT and left thousands without power in a massive swath of the central city.

Major AM Power Outage Causes Lengthy Delays on Numerous Subway Lines

Sometimes it's on MTA equipment, sometimes it's on ours. In this case, we've identified equipment on our side that needs to be repaired," said Con Edison spokesperson Michael Clendenin. "There were failures on some underground equipment that feeds that station at 53rd and 7th. This, in turn, affected the signals over there."

Some DWP equipment was struck during construction work in or near a building, according to department spokeswoman Christy Holland.

I have not looked today but as of last night there was no interest from either the So-Called Journalists nor city leaders as to what went wrong in SF. One piece of equipment going down alone can not cause a huge 7 hour outage like this, several things had to go wrong, but it is like no one cares. Suck has been normalized.

I always find it amusing when some one who knows nothing on a topic explains what is and is not possible.

Feel free to find experts you trust and get their story. It will match mine, because I am right, I know, I got educated.

Barry Anderson, also a PG&E spokesman, said the outage was caused by a circuit breaker at a large substation.

“We had equipment failure, the catastrophic failure of a circuit breaker,” said Anderson. “When it failed, it created a fire in the insulation surrounding the breaker; something went wrong with the breaker to cause it to explode.”

According to Anderson, the Larkin substation where the equipment failed was previously identified as needing renovations in 2017-2018.

What was originally a $100 million dollar job will now most likely result in a bigger price tag due to the severity of the damages.
Power outage leaves 90,000 San Francisco residents without power – Golden Gate Xpress

Why am I not shocked.......sure looks like we have a root cause for the substation failure....a failure to keep up on the rot, thought that does not explain such a long wide outage.
