So, yesterday, it was reported that the Republican from Utah wasn't going to run again in '18. Now, it appears that he may not even last that long. Makes me wonder just what's buried in his closet.

Chaffetz may not finish term in House - CNNPolitics.com

I've been wondering that since he announced he wouldn't run for re-election. He's a rising star in the GOP, and it made no sense, then all the back and forth today about resigning before his term's up. Sure seems like he's being pushed by something or someone. It could also be that he's just fed up and wants to get the hell out, but that wouldn't explain the change from yesterday to today.

Evening Beaudreaux,

There is an article at The Hill. It states that Chaffetz has secured some new domains. Two suggesting a possible WH run in 2028, Jason2028.com and JasonChaffetz2028.com.

Not a good move thought to walk away from an elected position before winning another one first.

I suspect he may have "family issues." Maybe get out of the limelight before that bomb goes off.

Evening vesper,

If Chaffetz resigns early, it won't look that good if he tries to run for another office later on. His opponents will call him a quitter and say that he abandoned his post that he was elected to serve. However, he also has to weigh any harm from resigning early against any harm from being associated with Trump by staying.

I kind of doubt that this has anything to do with Trump. He's not that unpopular....yet. Now, of course, Chaffetz might just be a fast rat who knows when to abandon ship.

Yeah, I don't have a clue what it could be. When this happens from time to time, I look to see if the FBI has been sniffing around them, or if they have really cute and young staffers that could tempt them to cross a marital line.

My wife thinks it has something to do with him voting to cut Benghazi security. But, I see that as a long shot.

I don't see that as a problem for him, because that vote was a vote on a lot of things bundled together, and was brought up by the Democrats on the committee in open session a LONG time ago. But, what do I know? I've found it more safe to not argue with anyone's wife about anything, especially my own wife.

Actually at the end of the article I posted could be the reason he wants to leave and if so, it is an honorable one.

"Chaffetz signaled the move was in part to spend more time with his family.
"I’ve been away from my family for more than 1,500 nights, and it's as simple as a fact that I love my wife and I adore my kids and you just gotta reevaluate your life when you’re sleeping on a cot in your office,” he said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday afternoon.
“I want to reintroduce myself to my family.”

I saw a video of that interview. I can personally understand why he'd make this choice, if that all is true. I truly can.

There is something else, the campaign for 2018 kicks off this September. There's all the fundraising activities, and functions and all that jive that eats up every hour of the candidate's life when the House isn't in session. There is no real time for family unless you drag them along to all the functions and I wouldn't call that great family time. I do think the comments he gave on a radio show Wed. that he may leave before his term is finished was coming from someone who is just done, well done and wants to be home and out of Washington ASAP. But he is a smart man and knows that wouldn't be a wise choice. With the domains already set up for a run for governor in 2020 and possibly the WH in 2028, he certainly has a plan.

But hey I could be all wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

I think you've all got it wrong.

I think he expects to become a supreme court Justice in 2018.
