Now, THAT'S funny.

YEKATERINGBURG, Russia - This provincial Russian city, about 1,000 miles east of Moscow, is about as unlikely a place as any to find the leader of one of the more unlikely political causes to arise in opposition to President Trump. But Louis J. Marinelli, the 30-year-old English teacher who is the president of the Yes California movement, which seeks independence for the state, has decided to call it home.
. . .
Now with renewed attention on the movement, Mr. Marinelli is under scrutiny for living in a country that many in the United States see as an adversarial power.
. . .
And back in California, he is on the defensive for accepting travel expenses and office space from a Kremlin-linked nationalist group.

Gee, it's almost like all these "secessionist" movements are working for some other country that doesn't like us.....hmm......

Which others did you have in mind?

The Texan one, to be specific.

What foreign influence is involved in that?

There's Chinese influence in the Hawaii separatist movement, and China recently threatened to arm Hawaiian separatists. But who's in the Texas movement? Last I heard someone around here tell it, it was all a Koch conspiracy.

Yeah, alot of this came up when people tried to claim the California secession movement(such as it is, it really is not popular) was a result of Trump winning. It has been around a few years, has a few fringe folks who like the idea, and is mostly ignored or laughed at by regular people, and the leader is Russian connected. It is amusing, but not a big deal.

Of course it should be laughed at by people. But as people are digging under every rock to find Russians these days, you'd think you'd hear more about this.

A handful of people are being stupid. Stupid leader has a connection to Russia. Not really seeing where it is a big deal. If the California secession movement ever gets a real foothold, then it will be a big deal, but I doubt that is going to happen.

I didn't say it was a big deal; I said it was funny.

But it's certainly more than a mere "handful" of people trying dig Russians out of every nook and cranny.

The Russians again.

That's a stretch. Sure, the Russians would be thrilled to sow chaos and separation around the world, but there's no actual support or Russian ties to movement leadership. The only story which even tries to assert such a thing is the Breitbart story, and, well, Breitbart.

Texan secession is as stupid as Californian secession, of course.

Does that hole go down then take a hard left?

Well, that one is. How about the Alaskan and the Texas ones??

Other than that meeting in Russia itself, of course. And the NBC article also makes mention of said ties. So does the Aussie site.

Neither the NBC article nor the Australian one make any mention of "ties." They say the Russians, and Putin, are strongly in favor of secessionist movements around the world, and of course they are.

Only the Breitbart article mentions any involvement by people in the Texas movement in the Russian conference, and they don't mention any actual Russian backing of the movement other than encouragement.

I again stress that Texan secession is just as stupid as Californian.

Did you miss the part where it mentioned the Russian sponsored conference?

Did you read my post where I mentioned the conference?

Considering that you're not reading me well, you're reading way too much into the articles you're posting, and you hastily posted that "Indilens" farcical piece on Alaska, I don't even know how serious you are here.

If you ARE serious, you're certainly working backwards from the conclusion you want to reach.
