Hello All,
I am brand new here. I am retired which affords me the time and resources to keep the information channels (TV) on and the time to read the opinion pages of my local papers. My request is to reach out to people in similar positions for help in understanding/broadening my views of the national and global goings on. I tend to be a homebody, in that seldom do I encounter people that I feel comfortable with sharing/listening to similar/opposing views. If there are enough folks willing to help me make sense of the current situation in the world today, please help me maybe form a group or forum that allows for the CIVIL exchange of points of view. Here's hoping to hear from folks interested in the above description.
Regards, Rexedgar

"Unemotional" and "unbiased" might be a bit optimistic but welcome....and good luck!

Welcome. Not sure how much unemotional or unbias dialogue you'll get but there are a lot of good members from all different parts of the political spectrum here. I'm generally cantankerous and grumpy in my posting but if good honest dialogue is provided I return in kind.

Hello and welcome to DP,
It is possible to have civil conversations here, and just ignore those who just troll and make useless comments.
There are some good exchanges and many here conduct well informed debates.

Well, the forums here will help you become acquainted with our current political landscape. Check out government spending, partisan platforms, constitution, and other subforums to get a general idea of it all. Breaking News and General Political, tend to breakdown into very partisan threads where the majority take sides and berate each other for being utterly wrong.

We are in a new dark age where civility and facts are deemed unappealing by most, where most willfully reside in their fantasy worlds all to often practicing non consensual sadism on others as they do so let's be clear about the challenge , but you can count me in.

So..... let me start. I was raised in the 1950's-60's, 'my country right or wrong'. All male relatives, even by marriage were veterans of various branches of the US military. When mt time came, I served three years 1972-75 in the US Army. The only brush I had was with the 1973 Israeli-Arab War and we were not needed. After leaving the service, I began to look at my country/government in a different light. We did back the wrong people, we made foreign policy mistakes and there were plenty of mistakes on the home front. My feeling is that we, as a country, have not learned very much as far as world history. Bringing us to the current political climate, I voted against HRC more than for DT. As it turns out my state went for Trump and my vote made no difference. My first major complaint with the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvanniia Avenue s that he doesn't act very presidential. There are ethics issues that would never have come up in the past. DJT seems to grasp for words when he goes off the teleprompter. DJT has addressed 'hyperbole' in his ghost-written book, "The Art of the Deal". Now that there are two or more serious crises to be addressed, what are the audience to believe when DJT speaks to the world or the US?

Thanks for the response, not sure what it means, but thanks.........

That's "hello" in Texan. <):)

As far as the emotion and bias part of your opening thread. There will be plenty of both.
