I just spoke with yet another customer who lost their job in medical transcription to cheap foreign laborers due to employers abusing H1-b visas.

Automation taking American jobs is another lie perpetuated by liberals to justify crippling American workers.

Trump is now president. No way ANY Americans are losing their jobs anymore, let alone losing them to 'foreigners'. That's what I've read here, many times.

I don't think Hb1 Visas should be allowed. Period. All they do is take jobs from American citizens and legal immigrants. Interesting that a bipartisan bill was introduc d January 17th. Here's the scoop . . .

Senators Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin, both long-time H-1B reform advocates, reintroduced their bill for revamping the program Friday. The bill was first introduced in 2007.

Lawmakers have been debating proposals to change the popular H-1B visa program for years. The visas are in high demand, with three times more applications filed in 2016 than the annual limit of 85,000. But the program has also been highly contentious.
Currently, visas are allocated by a lottery system. But the proposed bill would eliminate the lottery system and task the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services with creating a "preference system" so that foreign students educated in the U.S. get priority on visas. It would give a "leg up" to advanced degree holders, those being paid a high wage, and those with valuable skills, according to the announcement. In so doing, Grassley and Durbin say they'll weed out outsourcing firms.

I like this idea on its face. It makes sense that highly talented and skilled workers might be in short supply in some areas of the country. But using Hb1s for housekeepers? That's so damned wrong.

Hmm... which liberal did that other than the one running that company? BTW, outsourcing or using cheaper labor is different from automation which is also a decision made by the company rather than the government.
 
Liberals? The Immigration Act of 1990 was passed with broad bipartisan support and signed into law by George HW Bush. I'm no big fan of the program either but this mess is a bipartisan one.

of course automation has taken many jobs, and it will continue to take many more
any time the automated device demonstrates a comparative advantage over the human capital
just as the HB1 workers enjoy a price advantage over the more expensive native employees to displace those former employees

it has little to do with political ideology and almost everything to do with using what works best within a given system

The H1-b visa abuse involves bringing workers from India, forcing American employees to train them, then firing the American workers afterwards. Ironically this customer was in Florida just like those Disney employees from a while back.

And it has to do with liberals because liberals hate the American middle-class worker.

The United States Congress as a whole is to blame for the immigration nightmare in the US; Dems & Reps both are responsible for the mess we now have.

The Congress has failed the US for about ~100 years; that is a lot of damage.

I recommend a 'two term limit' for EVERY elected office; municipal, county, state, federal, EVERY elected office in the US, no exceptions.

Nice deflection. The new excuse to justify shipping out American middle class jobs is that it's due to "automation" and yet the vast majority of jobs aren't being lost to automation at all. It's due to bad trade deals and companies abusing loopholes that liberals have written into the law.

Now, the employers are "forcing" employees to train foreign workers. This just gets better and better.

Given that unlawful imprisonment is illegal in the workplace, or anywhere else for that matter, my guess is that these employees are not held hostage and free to find other jobs.

Now, I am in no way condoning what the company is doing, but the bottom line for a company is to make money. Yes, greed is often detrimental to the workforce, but it isn't illegal.

It would be great if every company did "the right thing", but sadly, we don't live in a perfect world.
