In a modern context, I'd argue that it's urban folks who think they're better than non urban.
I don't have an issue with urban, rural or otherwise on most days, but this is where a lot of the dislike is coming from.
They're out of touch with what a lot of others deal with and they mock them for it

Total crap.
I can't count the times I've heard rural and suburban/exurban people refer to themselves as "real Americans".
That is a sickening misrepresentation of reality.

Deeper politics, as discussed on here, is not that interesting to a lot of people.
They vote and hear the bullet points of each candidate, but that's about it.
All the supposed lies and badness about Trump that you see, they're disinterested in.

I have a suspicion that most folks do give more than a crap about Russia, and understand why they should be not hated but for sure mistrusted. Russia is nobody's ally, Russia will never compromise their own interests. Anyone who forgets that is doomed to repeat the mistakes of everyone who thought they were an ally of Russia.
 
We had a known pathological liar in grade school. He would lie about all sorts of subjects, usually going beyond embellishment into outright fabrication. So, my friends and I devised a way to catch him in a lie. We decided we were going to make up fake editions of baseball cards and then put the question of ownership to him. Sure enough he claimed to own many baseball cards that didn't exist and he looked the part of a fool for his protests. What we have on our hands here is an electorate that believes in fake baseball cards.

The echo chamber on DP, which is largely concern trolls over Russia, is not representative of the public at large.
Seeking detente with Russia, doesn't make them an ally, it's just a decrease in hostilities.

Trump is a narcissistic egomaniac. That degree of self-love pales in comparison to the non-stop MSM circle jerking. Yes, to get away from arrogance and hubris requires the people embrace Trump who, despite his faults, is less arrogant and full of hubris than those in the media.

I have in-laws like that. The hate radio they've been listening to for decades has completely warped their minds. They won't even take off their NRA hats at dinner.

I don't have it now, but in Oklahoma last Nov., a Democrat pushed a ballot initiative that favored small farmers over corporate farmers and easily won. It can be done .

But Trump does a lot of bad crap, and I'm all for keeping the pressure on him. He works for us, and and is accountable to us, and I for one have no intention of letting him forget that!

Otherwise it just seems like crying wolf and I think we're already past that point.
Jumping his **** for "violating norms" and stuff like that, isn't going to win converts.

Most folks don't care about that.

With trump's daily lies and incompetence, along with the lying and incompetent people he has brought in, along with the very dangerous Bannonite cabal, there is no reason to reason with trumposters who won't admit to anything trump. As you found out in the jobs thread today .

I don't see it that way, but fair enough.

What I do see is the media and government leakers doing their best combat the lies and deceit of the Trump administration. It's not easy going-up against the U.S. government, and I give them credit.

Trump just fired the remaining 46 federal attorneys, including the one in NY that's in charge of investigating the Trump family operation. Not unheard of, but we see the way the man plays.

Trump is not less arrogant and full of hubris than anyone. He wins, hands down. He's so full of himself that he thinks that anything he says trumps whatever else comes up about any subject. Can you deny that?
