Here's the 66-page healthcare bill...

Why are the Republicans even going this direction? Its just stupid, this thing will fail faster than Obamacare was.

This thing will never happen - it is a show of fake compassion and fake concern for expanding federal power.

Poor people can rot in hell right? Who needs healthcare. What insane world do you live in where medical care is not a necessity?
Nice hyperbolic strawmen. You have no clue what my opinion is with regard to the poor. The only thing i said was that healthcare is a luxury not an entitlement. That does mean i think anyone should go without it as you are trying to say about me.

If you had asked me if i thought poor people should have acess to healthcare and how i thought that could be accomplished you might of actually heard an alternate approach to healthcare than what either party jas offered so far.

IMO, basic healthcare should be available to everyone. And, in fact, it ends up free to the poorest of us. For the next tier, ER issues, at least, are free. The ones who get it in the neck are those who can't afford insurance OR can't afford their deductible BUT have something to lose.

I still think Obamacare can be fixed. It's unforunate Democrats have no answers for their own legislation . . . Because it isn't working as it is.

If we had, you know, a functioning gvmt, both sides would be pitching ideas. Washington DC hasn't worked like that in years.
I agree that basic healthcare should be made available to everyone. I also think the hospitals and doctors who provide it should be able to go after people who use it and dont pay for it.

I also have a host of practicle ideas to make healthcare more affordable. One idea is to allow pharmacists to write scripts for people rather than forcing people to go pay a dr $150 to get a $2 script when they have the flue.

You literally only have to Google "Democrat answers to fix Obamacare".

Do you think maybe it says something about your media consumption that you believe Democrats have not been trying to advance solutions to fix Obamacare?

Yes. I think you're right.

No change to ACA is going to happen until they figure out how to get the three or four Republicans on board that only want repeal

i like how 5% of this is spent on addressing lump sum vs extended lottery winnings impacting medicaid eligibility

but yeah, the whole eliminating medicaid section makes it more clear than ever how much republicans hate the poor and want to just ship them to a desert to die. But first they'll make sure they don't get blamed for it, by delaying that until after the 2020 election. It's devious indeed

The dissent is interesting though. "I don't believe this is actually going to bring down the cost of treatment, I don't know that this is going to bring back affordable insurance," - jim jordan. If neither party can accomplish this with legislative and executive control, single payer is the only option left

Actually....Democrats DID have an answer for their legislation...it was called the "public option". However, not a single Republican would even consider it....and a handful of bluedogs were so afraid of their own shadow that they wouldn't vote for it. As a result, we got left with the horrible Heritage Foundation/Republican Insurance mandate as a compromise...that still couldn't convince a single Republican to vote for their own idea...but it did get the bluedogs on board. It was a horrible alternative but the best that Obama could achieve without the Republicans being willing to participate and the bluedogs being too scared to sign onto anything else.

American healthcare costs are going to continue to increase until we get rid of the preposterous "for profit" system.

The GOP putting there name on a piece of Socialist Legislature, now I have seen it all.

I said this earlier in this thread: "I'll wait with looking at this thing. It's going to change before it's passed. The final version is the important one."

Well, I'm correct...but not strictly correct. The issue isn't that it's going to change before it's passed, but that Congress is going to go through a 3-step process to repeal and replace Obamacare. This 3-step process is necessary because of constraints from House and Senate rules and voting realities. Here is an article...with a video from Ryan...that explains in detail what is going to happen and why it must happen this way. Ryan, in his video, also explains the GOP intentions and reasons for the changes to come. It's well worth any open-minded person's time if they want to fully understand what will be happening in respect to Obamacare.

One last thing from that CTH link: These are our options right now.

♦ Option #1 – We can do nothing – and allow ObamaCare to collapse on it’s own. In the interim many Americans will be negatively impacted and the more vulnerable and needy will be worst hurt. Premiums and co-pays continue to skyrocket while the insurance system tries to preserve itself.

♦ Option #2 – We can Repeal and Replace using the three-phase approach being proposed by Tom Price, Paul Ryan and Donald Trump:

1. Pass reconciliation legislation targeting the financial mechanisms.
2. HHS rewrites rules.
3. New laws are proposed by a full congress to adjust ObamaCare and add to it, and laws debated/passed.
Yes, this has it’s risks. No guarantee you’ll get the cookie you want in phase three because any structural amendment, any add-on, will take 60 Senate votes to pass.

♦ Option #3 – Pass futile structural repeal bills in the House, and watch them pile up in the Senate without the ability to pass and earn 60 votes. Shout and holler some more, gnash some teeth, and wait for 2018 when Republicans will attempt to win the other 8 seats needed. Again, even less of a guarantee on the outcome.

He's a decent snake oil salesman.
