The CIA has a program which imitates Russian hackers called UMBRAGE.

During the election, I recalled one of those in-the-know claiming Hillary's email release could have been an inside job... inside the US Intel services.

Assange also said the emails did not come from the Russians.

The idea that Trump colluded with the Russians is beyond bizarre, but it's all the Demokrats have. When this blows-up in their faces, they're going to have blown a hole double the depth and width for their party to get out of.

To think the Russians didn't want Hillary, who gave them 20% of US Uranium, someone bought off by numerous foreign entities, and is corrupt and pliable is also beyond odd.

Obama, caught on a hot mic told Medvedev to tell Putin he'd have more flexibility to disarm (unilaterally) after the election.

Demokrats have been world-wide Commi Lovers for decades... and now they don't like Russians!!! Find them a threat?!!! ROTFLOL

UMBRAGE[/h]The CIA's hand crafted hacking techniques pose a problem for the agency. Each technique it has created forms a "fingerprint" that can be used by forensic investigators to attribute multiple different attacks to the same entity.

This is analogous to finding the same distinctive knife wound on multiple separate murder victims. The unique wounding style creates suspicion that a single murderer is responsible. As soon one murder in the set is solved then the other murders also find likely attribution.

The CIA's Remote Devices Branch's UMBRAGE group collects and maintains a substantial library of attack techniques 'stolen' from malware produced in other states including the Russian Federation.

With UMBRAGE and related projects the CIA cannot only increase its total number of attack types but also misdirect attribution by leaving behind the "fingerprints" of the groups that the attack techniques were stolen from.

UMBRAGE components cover keyloggers, password collection, webcam capture, data destruction, persistence, privilege escalation, stealth, anti-virus (PSP) avoidance and survey techniques.

This is the biggest mess I have ever even contemplated. Sorting this out will take years. Our intelligence community is beginning to sound like an oxymoron.

What do you mean? An act of war by who?

Going to war with the people's choice Trump might be their biggest mistake ever, and as we all know this is in the context of them being long running very expensive hostile to democracy ****-ups, so that is saying something.

There's no evidence for the whole "Russian hacking" conspiracy. It comes from the same people who told us the lie of "Saddam has WMDs".

It's non-sense. Cyber-security experts like William Binney and John Mcafee all say it's ludicrous. If a hacker did something like that, they would cover their tracks. Or they could insert Russian language into the code, for example, making it look like a Russian did it.

John McAfee knows more about hacking maybe than any person on the planet. This is nothing new.

Saddam did have WMDs bud. Ever hear of chemical weapons?

Furthermore, not necessarily, especially if the hacker thought it would cause more disorder for us to find out that the Russians were responsible. Remember, Putin is KGB(there's no such thing as "ex KGB". Names change, but not the beast). Chaos is what they did best.

Who told you the CIA could imitate foreign hackers? Foreign hackers? It must be true then, THEY wouldn't lie, would they?

John Mcafee. Maybe you have heard of him.

Being dismissive is a stupid position.

I hope you do not think that the CIA doesn't have such capability?

If I have crew of guys who build houses, would you be shocked to learn that they can build Craftsman style houses as well as Traditional and Modern style houses?

There're techniques and tools for computers and networks just like there are for houses.

Different crews may specialize in certain techniques and favor certain tools, but that doesn't make it surprising that the crew can use other techniques or other tools.

It was pretty much glossed over but in Nov 2016 Georgia, Kentucky, and West Virginia were all cyber attacked...by the US dept of homeland security.

There has yet to be any actual evidence presented. Many will point to the reports that came out, but if one reads those, they don't contain actual evidence. It's more accusations than anything else.

On top of that the OP is leaked info on the CIA's hacking info. So unless these documents are proven false (and IIRC, none of the docs Wikileaks has released have ever been proven to be false), then we can take it at its word.
