Trump Surprises White House Tour Group

Secret Service agents always look like that. . .angry, forbidding, like their stomachs hurt.

Almost as if that Zapruder film is constantly doing a loop in their heads. :)

Yes. :) The guy who preceded President Trump into the joint session of Congress had an expression on his face that would have made Hitchcock or any director of an ax murderer or a mafia contract executioner stalking his prey proud. He was on President Obama's detail too and he always had the same expression.

In fact all the secret guys are such absolute no nonsense, serious, sour pusses that they stick out like a sore thumb. Watch the President in any large gathering and it is immediately obvious who is secret service and who isn't.

I was at some training for 10 weeks with a bunch of SS guy and gals. They're really sharp, good people. And they don't teach them to look that way. It really is just a tremendous amount of stress.

That's probably thier training, they have to watch the Zapruder film for 8 hours straight hooked up like Alex in A clockwork orange

A large majority of them are not the party, funny types. That's not the people they wish to hire. They want serious people. But there's a few that will go out on the town drinking and are just hilarious guys. If not, there wouldn't have been that whole Colombia debacle (I wasn't part of that).

I remember when Obama use to do that with Tours, White House Staff at night and impromptu stops out of the Armored Beast ... ;)

Oh I don't doubt that for a minute. I'm not criticizing. Just observing the obvious. :)

The two I have ever had an opportunity to converse with really loved their jobs.

Too bad he didn't do it in Chicago.

That job has a huge turnover. A great many of them quit and go to other agencies. They work the **** out of them, and it's not always glamorous. Guarding a manhole cover for 8 hours can get to you.

Actually he did, many times, once when I was there in The South Shore for business.

As a matter of fact, those motorcades happened a lot.

I'm sure it would. I wouldn't want to do it. Did you ever see the movie "Guarding Tess"? Of course it is a comedy of sorts--a really entertaining movie with all the normal unrealistic aspects built into it--but it does provide a perspective on what being a secret service agent can entail.

That sounds familiar, but I'm gonna go find it and watch it again.

The headline almost makes it sound like Trump exposed himself. Which would have been sickening, but not much of a surprise.

I haven't been to the WH in years, but I'm gonna guess the group had already been searched. It wasn't like Trump was out on the streets. But I know damn well the agents still puckered up a bit. They don't like random encounters with the public.

I watched this today from both angles. A camera behind Trump looking out at the group of kids and a camera facing Trump. The little guy that came up was first seen asking if it was him the president wanted to come up. And when he got the a okay he was grinning from ear to ear. And then when he walked forward the first thing he did was give the prez a hug. That was a big deal in that little guy's life. It was a big deal for the whole class.

Greetings, Vesper. :2wave:

I don't know about you, but I'd be grinning from ear to ear too if I got a hug from any President of the United States, with my entire class watching! Lucky little guy!

The SS agents have probably seen him naked already, so they have my sympathy.

That's exactly what I thought. What a life experience to always have and share with people.

My granddaddy took me to the WH when I was 9. If Ronny Reagan had walked out and called me up to pat me on the shoulder, that would have been the most exciting day of my life.

It was also a great photo op for a POTUS who is a publicity freak. He gets his face on camera, without having to face very tough questions from reporters. Good PR move from a POTUS who is entrenched in controversy.
