Anyone here know what the average iPhone Cost as compared to the average cost of Healthcare.

The maybe we could as the poor to consult with an expert Financial Adviser on what's a priority for the poor.

I pay $1,500/month for insurance (I don't qualify for subsidies) and I paid around $800 for my unlocked iPhone. But I think most lower income people with iPhones get them with a contract, which is much cheaper.

Half the reason why the poor keep getting poor and the rich keeps getting rich....."POOR" choices....

Iphones.....every 2 years..... it can cost between $300-$1000 for a phone.... phone plans can be as little as $30-$100, $360-$1200 a year for a cellphone...now add on the accessories, that these people "need", headphones, covers, cases blah blah blah.... The cost adds up. Dont even get me start on tablets.

Cellphones/smartphones have become a need vs a want. Its sad..... now add another "Want" a car..... These are all Wants that eat through peoples salary.... wasted cost vs needed cost......

Health care, is probably the most important tool you ever purchase in your life......You/person....work to make money, if you are sick you cannot work/cannot make money and that effects everything..... but if you invest in your health, and you stay healthy you can work and work hard, make more money and obtain the "wants" that your really enjoy.....


Sad to what our society has become.......

For almost all Americans this is quite right. Last I looked about 16 percent are subtracted from pay in Germany for health care, if I recall. They cannot choose the iPhone instead.

I would argue a car is a "need" in certain places of the country without adequate public transportation.

So basically, all poor people shouldn't get healthcare because you're convinced they're only poor because they all spend too much in I-phones and make poor choices? Not an ounce of compassion or understanding for your fellow human beings.

Both are way too much and I can't believe someone who's Poor is buying a phone for $800 plus a monthly contract.

I know my my cell bill is well north of $100 a month, but my business covers that and my insurance.

If I was poor, I wouldn't have anyone to call ... and that's the problem.

If you're Poor, you need all types of access to get a Job, and without a Job you can't afford access ... and thus stay Poor.

If I recall about 16 percent are subtracted from wages for health care in Germany. They don't get to choose.

Bull.....trying to be PC..... to save face...... be honest.... thats the only way it will help the "low" income....

I work with people that make minimum and make....ridiculous money....... Want to know the difference why? Because of their choices.......

Why can I make my point.... because I went from a W2 to a 1099 and suffered for 2 years......but I bought health insurance no matter what and now, I make more than I ever did as a W2....... I cut all expenses.....and yes suffered...but I did not succumb to my wants... stayed focus.... something that is lacking with our younger generations and low income... (not all, but a good portion)

I would also point out that people can get used smartphones for a much cheaper price, and also , people can lose jobs after they have their smartphone (or get them as a gift)

Germans can also opt-out of that and take every euro of their money to a private insurance company. German healthcare is insanely affordable and I've found it to be very high quality.

The Greater, YES, they do make poor choices....the do spend their money on needless things....in my experience, I have witness this in the lower income brackets. Compassion or understanding? Again as I typed above, I went from W2, full salary, 401k, Health Coverage, taxes paid, to 1099 over night, Literally, I lost everything....... my first months commission check was $182 before taxes, I suffered for 2 years, but I dialed everything back.... made choices to CUT, as much expenses that I could....and guess what I worked my @$$ off....... 2 years later, I broke even, 3 years later I started to make a profit, Currently I now make more money than I ever have on a W2.

Wanna know something, When I was a W2 worker I had a brand new BMW....(not a brag but a point of stupid choices)...... Now 1099 making more money than back then? guess what I driver? A 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, that is paid off and I bought used......I make more money, but I DONT need a new BMW....it was a useless want....


feeling compassion or understanding? Make dedicated choices and then show me hardship and then I will have compassion, but realistically..... the greater does NOT make the smart choices.

I have a crappy trac phone that I only spend 20 bucks on ever 90 days. It gives me smart phone stuff, but I have a nice tablet.

I have no need for an expensive Iphone (plus, I'm more of an android guy)

Chaffetz makes a solid point here. I would also like to add that poor people might have to tighten their belts and go to Ruth's Chris like every other month or play a few holes less when they go golfing. It's not like we have people living in this country that don't even have access to clean water or reliable electricity. He definitely gets what being poor is like. Good for him. Now let's take their healthcare.

The cost of an iphone with service isn't remotely comparable to the cost of healthcase. I pay close $15000 a year for healthcare - I pay about $600 for an iphone on ATTs network (actually $3000 for 3 phones and 2 ipads). And for many cell phones have replaced landlines, which are unquestionably necessities. Cars as well. Outside of large cities with good public transit people need cars to get to work, do grocery shopping etc.
