The first full part of the series, "Year Zero", comprises 8,761 documents and files from an isolated, high-security network situated inside the CIA's Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Virgina. It follows an introductory disclosure last month of CIA targeting French political parties and candidates in the lead up to the 2012 presidential election.Recently, the CIA lost control of the majority of its hacking arsenal including malware, viruses, trojans, weaponized "zero day" exploits, malware remote control systems and associated documentation. This extraordinary collection, which amounts to more than several hundred million lines of code, gives its possessor the entire hacking capacity of the CIA. The archive appears to have been circulated among former U.S. government hackers and contractors in an unauthorized manner, one of whom has provided WikiLeaks with portions of the archive.

By the end of 2016, the CIA's hacking division, which formally falls under the agency's Center for Cyber Intelligence (CCI), had over 5000 registered users and had produced more than a thousand hacking systems, trojans, viruses, and other "weaponized" malware. Such is the scale of the CIA's undertaking that by 2016, its hackers had utilized more code than that used to run Facebook. The CIA had created, in effect, its "own NSA" with even less accountability and without publicly answering the question as to whether such a massive budgetary spend on duplicating the capacities of a rival agency could be justified.

They just exposed the CIA's hacking arm, which is as big or bigger than the NSA's, with less oversite, if any.

Hmmm. I get how this looks, but...these are the weapons of the future.

Would we all be OK with wiki leaks releasing our schematics and capabilities of military hardware for all to see?

I mean, if they did the same for all the other industrialized world powers, I suppose I'd be ok with it.

Im not surprised. Im pretty sure every Federal agency has its own hacking department which rivals the NSA in size and scope.

Well they developed a multitude of tools for domestic spying.
Also they are or were working on tools that would hack into modern vehicles.

Of course. Remote shut down, GPS location, and hacking to listen into blue tooth convos.

We can already do that. All of that. What I'm saying is, these are tools that are the weapons of the future. What made the NSA leak different is who was targeted.

Well they could also use it to kill people.
These tools were lost, one of the contractors it was "lost" to happened to hand it over to Wikileaks.
The CIA develops malware and things like that as well, it to was lost among multiple contractors.

I see that Putin is trying to help his puppet Trump by creating other news... The CIA spies on other countries, who would have thought that?!!! SHOCKING!!!

Wow it's like you don't even bother to read and then comment.
Thanks for your enlightening conspiracy theories.

Come on.. timing is everything. Trump is under massive pressure from all sides. His failing administration and his erratic behavior is all we have been seeing in the news for weeks. And suddenly one of his allies, Wikileaks comes out with CIA documents that were stolen/hacked under his predecessor, a man that Trump has accused of hacking him and worse... It is so freaking obvious what is going on here.

So when Wikileaks released Sarah Palin's emails, it was because they were working with Putin to get Obama elected?

What would be surprising is how careless the organization must be. It was well known that the vulnerability of this type of information is great and needed eyes only protection.

Based on the press release, this stuff was lost to multiple contractors.
That includes CIA developed malware, etc.

People already knew this kind of stuff was going on. The government has been creating viruses that they infect other computers with for decades.

Eh? The guy was caught and put in jail. Had nothing to do with Putin.

Does that matter?
It's utterly stupid to attribute Wikileaks releases to Russia, without evidence.
It's just your belief, which is fine, but it's a fairly dumb belief imo.

For **** sake... there are maybe 3 countries on the planet with the cyber ability to breach the US defenses like this.. China, Israel and Russia. Which would have most to gain from such a release? Or are you saying that it is another inside mole action? Which one would you rather have?

An independent contractor that leaked it is a country?
That's what the press release says, helps to read you know.

Our governments lies and corruption are acceptable as long as it is your party that benefits from it. So why all the shock that Russia does the same thing when they hack and spy on us. Oh wait it only matters if it is your party that gets hacked. I keep forgetting double standards are OK if they favor your party or support your agenda.

So it's obvious that the CIA have the technological methods to hack iPhones and Android (and other things, although it seems the leak is centered around these). What is less obvious is how they use it on US citizens, so hopefully a few more things will be forthcoming from this. There is already evidence from the leak that the govt sell exploits of US companies software to foreign nations.
