A student organization has attracted a firestorm of criticisms after it demanded that administrators create a space for students of color to organize.

Some have called the action by the Students4Justice racist and an effort to facilitate segregation on campus by creating an area unwelcoming of white students.

“The same organization that criticizes the University for failing to create ‘an environment that engages in diversity, equity and inclusion,’ is calling upon the University to undermine these ideals by facilitating a sort of de facto segregation? One where space and resources are designated for students based solely on the color of their skin?”

The story says that UMich already has a Multicultural Center on campus for minority students to gather, yet some minority students are claiming it isn't enough as they 'demand' yet another safe space where they'll be free of white people.

It seems like the more sensitive and 'multicultural' we become, the more divided and tense things get.

Thoughts?

The point has always been about constitutional equality of members of all races. Then the democrats got hold of it and demanded equality of persons. Races are in fact more inclined to associate with their own members for very rational and human reasons.

Equality under the law does not preclude a "white club", "a black club" or a "club footed persons club", except on public property or in public business. In private business, anti discrimination remains the law of the land.

Trying to change human nature leads to this insanity, and a failure to face the cold hard facts of what makes us human.

Why would any sane employer hire any applicant with a degree from a school that practices Anti-White aprtide?

Their company will certainly have to do business with and employ white people!

How would their new-hire cope?

These idiots are devaluing their graduates to someone any sane employer avoids at all costs!

From what I remember reading the Multicultural Centre they talk about is actually just a building to hold club offices of various ethnic student associations.

I am not sure that more multicultural is the problem so much as "more sensituve" . My intuition points to the "sensitivity" being counterproductive making many feel increasingly to be vitimized and putting a chip squarely on their shoulders. At the same time the continuing accusations anger members of the majority, who do not feel they are or had ever been negatively inclined towards the minority. This is possibly the mechanism behind the perception of growing divisiveness you see.

All by design, which makes multiculture fail by encouraging crybabies, yearning to be victims in the freest country in the world.

Because you need to be in 98th percentile in grades and test scores just to get in. A UM degree is respected internationally and there's 0 concern this will change because the actions of a few activists. These people are far smarter and more capable than the average dropout from commuter U. No need to show your jealously so transparently

It is a simple lack of assimiliation when one must acclimate to a new locale.

When living in China I tried to speak the native language as much as possible. The same with France, Hong Kong, and other places.

That is not the case anymore. People would racher hide in their little worlds where its "safe".

People of like and unlike mind can gather in any situation. Like this website. Skin color is so trivial a requirement.

It is too bad outer space isnt that safe.

Why the surprise?

This is normal.

Children begin to self-segregate by race in the fifth, sixth and seventh grade.....by their senior year they are largely self-segregated.

In college students routinely self-segregate to a great extent.

In prison, inmates self-segregate almost totally.

In the U.S. cities are segregated. Whites live mostly together, blacks live mostly together, same with Asians and Latinos to a great extent. This shows us that people just tend to group together with the people that are most like them.

Humans are tribal creatures. It is genetic and instinctive. Grouping together in tribes with others who are like us is comforting to us.

What this means for the future in an America that is growing more and more divided, hostile and violent is truly a chilling prospect.

ahh. exaggeration. ok. I get it now. thanks.
