Danish Man Charged With Blasphemy After Burning Koran. [CNN]

He broke the law, so he has to pay the price.. what is wrong with that? He will be fined and that will be the end of it.

But lets be fair.. only reason he got caught, is that he posted his stupidity on social media.

What is wrong is it is a stupid and archaic law. The more people who ridicule it the more likely law makers will feel compelled to repeal it.

I dont disagree, however he did break the law and considering he could go to jail.. and most likely will get a fine, if convicted.. then well. Lets put it this way, there are more important things to do than repealing this law.

I do not know if Denmark has the equivalent of Jury nullification, but this would be a good application!

So you support religious laws?

So you support religious laws?

It is a civil law. Is it based on religion.. sure but so is the most criminal law. Do I support this specific law? No. But do I want to waste my time as a politician to "save" one idiot xenophobic moron that was stupid enough to post his crime on Facebook? There are more important things to do.. or dont you agree?

Well, it had traction enough to hit CNN and make it to American message boards and social media, and this in light of recent Muslim minorities rioting over there, will be an increasing example for America why NOT to have such an "open" system when it comes to taking in increasing numbers from the ME....

Eh? What Muslim minorities rioting? And what has this to do with having an "open system" or whatever you are calling it?

He burned a Koran.. he could have burned a Bible ... kinda irrelevant. Both would have him arrested and charged.

In another incident:

"At the traditional Eid celebrations in the Muslim ghetto of Vollsmose in Denmark’s third biggest city, Odense, a car arrives with two Muslims from a unwelcome gang. One of the two is shot and later stabbed, the other escapes. As the victim receives treatment at Odense University Hospital, 60-70 aggressive and violent Muslims arrive at the hospital, bringing weapons such as clubs, knives and even guns, wanting to kill him. The police are quick to respond, but are not able to make any arrests. They draw their guns in order to make the Muslims leave the hospital. On their way out, the angry mob smashes several windows in an ambulance and a police car. Later during the day, the police manage to arrest 6 of them, and now their many friends are threatening to cause even bigger riots if they are not released."

Did you miss this grammatically wrong part?
from a unwelcome gang
. Yes we have had a gang war between Hells Angels, Bandidos (both biker gangs) and immigrant groupings over drugs and weapons across the country for almost a decade. Now the immigrant groupings usually just fight each other.. but still it is a gang war.

Well I happen to know where this happened, and that area of Copenhagen has had so called riots since the 1970s driven mostly by youth.... not Muslims, but youth. Hell you should have seen it after the 1992 EU vote .. now that was a riot. The streets were literally ripped up and the stones used as projectiles. Every American owned store or linked was looted and so on.

Ok, so you're fine with it....that's all you had to say... But, I can tell you this...If you were MY rep, and seeking my vote with the platform that you are fine with the violence, brought in by Muslim immigrants, then you wouldn't get my vote.

No I am not fine with the law per say, however it stands between passing a budget or other legislation vs getting this ancient rarely used law off the books.. I know what I would prioritize.

We are no longer talking about the law that the man was convicted of, but you knew that...

Yeah but this is operating under some strange universe where a legislative body can only do one thing or the other thing.

He broke the law, so he has to pay the price.. what is wrong with that?
German laws in late 1930ies stated that critisism of Hitler was breakage of the law. Was it OK to punish opponents of the nazi-regime because "they broke the law"?

Would it (today) be OK to punish a man burning "Mein Kampf" because some nazies get "their feeling hurt".

So, I wonder, would the Danes object to our NEA funded ART, Jar-of-piss-with-Crucifix?

Or is that consider Anti-Western, Anti-Christian, and therefore, Politically Correct?

The law has been used 3 times since 1866. I am not sure when it incepted, but it is pretty clearly being selectively used as a tool by the government to suppress speech that is anti-Islamic. Although posted on FB, I think it was posted to a private group rather than public. That raises a question of whether it was really public v private speech.

Denmark has significant immigration problems. My husband, a Dane, is appalled at the drain of social resources upon the refugees DK has taken in and also at the crime imported. Denmark, itself, has not been particularly forthcoming or truthful in reporting statistics-- mainly at the fear of appearing racist.

The prosecutor here seems to openly be saying that this is a political prosecution, designed for the courts to take a position, but it's pretty wacky to think that Lutheran DK, a place that now has very little religion in its daily culture, is criminally prosecuting someone burning the Koran.

The bolded is what stinks.

Regardless of one's position on the political and quasi-political aspects of the case, I think one ought agree that a law that is enforced just three times in over a century is no law at all.
