ISIS has been defeated!

I was speaking for myself, not for "Republicans" as a category... just myself, and perhaps for other rational people who realize a major military operation isn't planned prepared and executed in a mere 30 days.

Someone should have told Trump that exact thing, before making a promise he cant keep. If ya ask me, Trump spends more time crapping in his Depends, while moaning how unfair the press treats him, grow a pair Donny, and act the part you were hired to do.

Bud, I stopped taking political campaign rhetoric seriously decades ago. Any politician that makes a reasonable effort to fulfill most of the campaign promises is better than average.

Most just lie their ass off during the campaign and then do whatever suits them.

Trump is a man of many faults, but so far at least he's making an effort to do what he said. This thread is simply a yak-fest for the haters, like so many others. Regardless of his exact words no reasonable person expected to see major military action inside of 30 days.

Must have been by now. Back in September, Trump said:

It's been 30 days. If ISIS hasn't been defeated, at least we now have a plan to do so quickly. Isn't that great news?

Anyone can run their mouth.Actually doing something is a lot harder.

I'll believe Trump when I see some actual results.

The OP is mocking the lack of visible action, if it is a straw man it is HIS straw man.

As I've said repeatedly, I'm more concerned with what he DOES than what he says.

A reasonable time frame for a new prez to prepare and initiate a major military campaign would be a minimum of 6 months, more likely 12-18 months. Which is why I say if nothing has been done, and nothing appears to be in the works by this time next year, I will join in griping about The Donald not doing what he said.

Anyone who actually expected to see major military action in 30 days is highly ignorant of military realities. Rhetoric is one thing, reality is another. Anyone who has been paying attention for any length of time knows all politicians engage in rhetoric and hyperbole... I have to give Trump credit in that so far he is making more of an effort to act on his campaign promises in his first 30 days than most politicians do in 4 years.

Sounds great, but if what he says leads you to a false and/or unrealistic hope then what he says IS important.

We will see what we will see.

If anyone remembers, despite not being an Obama fan at all I often remonstrated with those who bashed Obama over trivial or unreasonable things, like vacations or certain campaign promises that turned out to be not as feasible as he thought at the time... closing Gitmo comes to mind.

My chief beef with this thread is along the same lines, that this thread is not a reasonable criticism.

As for your particular response...

Ideal: A man should be taken at this word. He should not promise anything he cannot deliver.

Reality: Politicians lie, exaggerate, get facts wrong and promise the moon CONSTANTLY. Almost all of them do this, to the point that the realistic standard becomes "only the naive take a politician at his literal word", and one who mostly tries to do most of what he said is actually above-average as politicians go.

A sad truth but that has become the way of it.

Yes, I'd prefer a leader who said exactly what he meant, and meant exactly what he said. I don't think we've had one of those since the mid-20th c.

Trump as usual, talks out of both sides of his mouth. He kept bragging that he had a plan to eliminate ISIS that could not fail. He claimed he knew more than the generals. But after he became President, he gave the Pentagon 30 days to come up with a plan to defeat ISIS. That's where the 30 days comes in. What is confusing is that if he already knew more than the generals and had his own foolproof plan to defeat ISIS, why did he even ask the Pentagon for a plan? He could have just given the Pentagon his plan and told them to execute it.

Your dots connect perfectly, but it will still be over the head of too many of his Suckers.

ISIS is a bit different than the other Radical Islamic groups we've fought up to their emergence.

We've never seen the open, blatant, even Proud, stage-show, mass exectutions done before.

Let's hope that what ever rises after ISIS is not so extreme.

We only lacked the technology or we would have.

Surely you're not so naive that you think a major military campaign can be planned, prepared, and carried out in 30 days.

And no, Trump didn't say ISIS would be defeated in 30 days. Not to my knowledge.

Look at this again:

Dittohead:

"If Isis hasn't been defeated, at least we now have a plan to do so quickly."

He has spent more time golfing, tweeting, taking weekend vacations in Florida, and throwing the most childish temper tantrums because of disagreeable media coverage than time and energy spent on Isis. He has literally spent more time and energy on media alone versus thought and action against Isis.

The upsetting aspect of his media whinefest further reveals he is clueless on even the most fundamental roles of POTUS. He actually claimed the media is not being fair by not announcing he is responsible for a debt reduction of $12 billion dollars for his first 30 days in office. He genuinely feels like he is getting shafted by the media because he has no idea an incoming POTUS cannot raise or reduce national debt in the first thirty days.

Was never an Obama supporter but it is funny Trump accidentally praised Obama's work by highlighting that reduction.

lol...I scanned the thread before making that exact point.

We only lacked the technology or we would have.

You may be correct in this assessment.

Sad.

In any case, while all religions have their extremists and bad apples, the ratio of Good/Neutral/Evil, is never as heavily weighed to the Evil End of the Spectrum, as we find consistently in Islam, both historically, and today.

Two wrongs, do not make it right, lame excuse.

Way more than two. It's almost expected that whoever is running for any political office lies and exaggerate what they will do if elected. You cannot believe 1/3 the stuff they promise at the time.

Like every President ever.

Yes, every president, every politician has made statements he couldn't fulfil. The thing is, Trump has elevated the making of impossible campaign promises to an art form.

Did anyone expect him to know more than the generals and be able to defeat ISIS in a few weeks?
Does anyone think he can bring those high paying manufacturing and mining jobs back?
Does anyone think he can put a quick end to illegal immigration?
Does anyone think he has a plan to replace Obamacare that's so much better?

Answer: Yes, his core supporters do seem to think that he can do all of that, and more.

We did...in Yemen. Killed 9 of their top leaders. Others might call them children, but as they say...ignore minor details!
