tRUMP Promises To BRING BACK BLACK LUNG & the COAL MINING INDUSTRY

true .................... BUT I have experience with this myself ...........
when I was much younger I lived in an area where there was little economic opportunity; I MOVED to where the jobs were :)

How did you move your wife and two kids? Moving for jobs is VERY difficult.

How many solar jobs are available in Louisiana?

Given a projected increase in capacity of 132MW (250% increase) a fair few.

  • National Ranking: 29th (32nd in 2016)
  • State Homes Powered by Solar: 8,000
  • Percentage of State’s Electricity from Solar: 0.20%
  • Solar Jobs and Ranking: 2,922 (24th in 2016)
  • Solar Companies in State: 5 Manufacturers, 53 Installers/Developers, 16 Others
  • Total Solar Investment in State: $248.93 million ($28.00 million in 2016)
  • Price Declines: 64% over last 5 years
  • Growth Projections and Ranking: 132 MW over next 5 years

Killing jobs, without creating new jobs is a net loss, not a net gain.

my comment you quoted was about me moving to where the opportunities were at the time

I do have an idea about your reply tho' ............. let's substitute a few words & see how your statement works :)

Killing ObamaCare, without creating an equal/and or better option is a net loss, not a net gain

wasn't married then :)

AFA the 20 year old Dakota with a wife & two kids, that is disappointing.
He seems to have bet not only his economic future BUT the economic future of his entire family (fours souls) on his wish to be a coal miner.
Besides being really sad, that is a bad choice on his part; he should have prepared better for himself & for his family.
Dakota's idea that a president (Trump) is some how gonna be the indirect financial savior of his family is the saddest part.

Congress and the President has not done that yet. So your "trade on words" is meaningless rhetoric.

Now, back on topic. The OP skipped over and failed to respond to an earlier post. (89)

What other jobs in the local area do you have in mind for the coalminers to be trained for?
Yes, coal mining is dangerous. So is being a police officer, fire fighter, electrical line workers, etc.

Would you advocate that all "dangerous" jobs be eliminated and the workers retrained?

Do you believe that the coal miner does not realize the risks they are taking? Seems the health issue information has been out in the media for decades.

With trump rolling back obamas war on coal the mines could reopen.
There is still a demand for it.

Uh no, there isn't. Natural gas has been eviscerating the coal industry way more than Obama ever could. It is easier though to blame regulations for job losses than market trends.

i dont see it.

I never said anyone was. I said that solar has the potential for a huge amount of jobs, and if we're going to be investing in energy, we should be directing money, effort and jobs in that direction instead of dirty coal.

What do you have against people doing what eh have to do to support their families?
I thought liberals support working class America?

Those coal miners keep people's homes warm and lights on.
They were one of the first groups to start the labor movement.

Your disdain for working people is evident.

No, my disdain for coal is evident. It's dirty, and there's far better and more efficient energy sources out there. While it sucks for people whose lives are attatched to coal that the world is fleeing that source of energy, in the end, it's what's better for humanity, not the people of West Virginia.

I guess you liberals only care about the working folks as long as they srrve your purpose and when they no longer do, you all **** on them.

So you think the answer is to prop up dead industries in order to keep people employed in them. I thought conservatives didn't think the government should be picking winners and losers. Where's your belief in the free market now?

Obviously, the industry is rairing to go. Coal companies are ready to do business. If the industry is failing, as you suggest, the operators would be closing all the mines down and Obama wouldn't have had to promise to shut them down.

Actually coal is booming right now. unfortuantly people missed out on the opportunity with Obama's war.
well it is more than just the people in WV.

na I think the opposite. these people have a right to support their families by any means that they can.
even if that means digging in a mine to keep other peoples lights on and keep their homes warm.

Your link says absolutely nothing about change in demand for coal.

China is massively investing into solar energy.

Thousands of coal plants are being retired or converted to natural gas.

Didn't read it all?

From my link:
The National Mining Association estimates 50,000 new employees will be needed in coal mining over the next 10 years to meet increasing demand and to replace retiring workers.

And I don't care about China. This thread is about the US.
