Trump Administration Rescinds Rules on Bathrooms for Transgender Students

That is trumps attitude it is a state issue not a federal one.

Exactly, Obama felt that the federal government should be micromanaging state affairs and Trump is putting a stop to that.

Welp, I had a feeling that this was coming. According to NBC Nightly News, there are some protests going out outside the White House at the moment as a result of this.

I have to say I agree with Betsy's viewpoint on this one, even though she eventually caved.

What are your thoughts on this decision?

When I read it on my news feed thing on my phone earlier, they all seemed to list it as trump legalizing the bullying of transgender kids, I already figured it was about the retarded bathroom issue the vast majority of americas care neither one way or another about, but some tried to cash in early.

Don't know why this was deemed a fedrr matter anyway.

It's actually more amazing that people are making a big deal out of trans genders using a restroom. Here's a hint they've been doing it for decades and chances are you've been in a restroom with one and never noticed.

The problem entered the picture when the federal government stepped in and made a mandate that effected everyone. If it was working fine the way it was, as you just suggested, then putting it back the way it was should satisfy you and everyone else.

We used to put men on the moon, and now we put them in women's bathrooms.

Kinda funny when you think about it.

I think it is the trans-trans community that we should be concerned about. These fall into two groups: Firstly men who have transferred into women and are dismayed at not being allowed by the patriarchy to use male lavatories (which for some mysterious reason Americans call 'bathrooms' even though there are no bathing facilities). And secondly, as the more thoughtful among you may have already surmised, women who have transferred into men but find it more convenient to share facilities provided for their former sisters.

Trans-trans people often like to demonstrate their individuality by wearing the clothes and adopting the life-style of the sex to which they no longer belong. No bigot should dare suggest that they do not have this right.

I wonder what would happen if a large group of activist women suddenly decided to identify as male and spent time at the urinals... watching.

The damn trannies don't know their places!

Like you I was actually quite surprised to read about DeVos' initial reaction to this.

It would be pretty awkward, to say the least. ;)

Oh snap...common sense AND employing his own reasoning to a 'solution'? Well played!

Well there is no lava in a lavatory either, so there.

I wonder if she was uncomfortable because of the policy itself or because Trump is going back on yet another stance he previously held in record time

One of two things, they'd get arrested for voyeurism or have their asses kicked in the restroom. And I doubt you'd find a single male to testify on their behalf. Men have restroom etiquette that you don't **** with.

My guess is that eventually, the Supreme Court will decide.

I doubt it. This is not even close to the level of, say, Same Sex Marriage.

Trump axed this just so it could be left up to the States...plain and simple.

Good.

1. POTUS shouldn't be able to change statutes by having an underling issue a letter. If Obama wanted to try to get something this far-reaching and controlling passed, he should have taken it to Congress.

2. Who should have told him to get stuffed because the proper place for decisions about this sort of thing is at the local level.

This is after Trump claimed during his campaign that he advocated for LBGTQ rights. A total flip-flop. He's totally caving to the religious right on this one, proving that he's not "his own man" as he frequently claims.

as long as they are hot sure.
Then again I don't know too many women interested in watching a guy pee.

What obama did was an overreach. Trump is right it is a state issue.
If you want something done at the federal lvl then get a bill through congress.

This is being taken up the federal courts, but in the meantime, by neither requiring schools to provide a unisex bathroom or allowing trans kids to use the bathroom they present as, it puts those kids at risk

"Think of the children!" except when they're a minority

Funny. The Trump administration wants this put in the authority of the states, but Pot reform??? Federal government all the way!

I support the decision partly.

Trans students should be allowed to use a private restroom if they choose. If not than use the gender you are born with. If the student undergoes a reassignment surgery then they can go to the restroom of their new sex. This is Strictly something pertaining to CHILDREN in SCHOOLS. I could even give a little and allow high school grade 9 to 12 more leeway, as long as K threw 8th grades are not in same building, in bathroom privilges.

Private business are free to make any bathroom rules they choose.

Short of pre pee monitors not sure how enforceable these school restroom rules really are.

Unlike the general public bathrooms, kids who grew up together know what gender the others were originally. There's no way for a kid to put on a dress and escape that. Could've reached a compromise by requiring schools to provide a unisex bathroom like the nurse's office, but it's clear Trump doesn't give a damn about those 'freaks'

Yeah or gay marriage bans vs the war for drugs. In fact gay marriage opposition went from the federal "DOMA" and trying for constitutional amendment, to "states' rights" awful damn fast. They clearly use whatever authority they can and claim that's the only legitimate authority, to get what they want
