Just saw him interviewed. Interesting. I wonder if he'll veto a bill that may pass turning California into a Sanctuary State.

California lawmakers are pushing ahead with a plan to create a border-to-border sanctuary in the state for undocumented immigrants – in defiance of President Donald Trump.

um. Well. Yes?

You forgot the link.

Thanks. ;)

Well it is clear that Immigration law is a Federal, not a State issue as it applies to every one of the States.

The action of a single State could have far-reaching effects on the rest of the nation as illegals flood into California, get documentation giving the impression they are legal...then move to other states and use their driver's license, fake SSAN, etc. to re-establish themselves "legally" elsewhere.

This is another foolish SJW action which only goes to exemplify the unreasoning ideology of those who support this kind of activity.

If Trump can stop the federal money going to California my guess
would be they won't have much choice but to comply with federal law.

California Receives More Federal Money Than Any Other State. In FFY 2012-13, California received $343 billion in federal spending.
In absolute terms, California receives the largest quantity of federal funding because it has the nation’s largest population.

Federal Spending in California

California's actual wall of debt is $443 billion. The state's complete and growing Wall of Debt reflects unsustainable budgeting practices.

If it is federal mandate to determine immigration and it is legal for a State to ignore federal law, then we have one set of problems. If we find that it is illegal to break federal law the problems are quite different ones. Only should immigration be outside the federal mandate are we our of trouble, if California passes a Sanctuary bill.

Captain, you've made EXCELLENT points here about the repercussions ALL of these Sanctuary areas have on those around them. That is something I'd never even THOUGHT of. Thank you.

the whole idea of states rights in regard to federal laws has been a cluster**** for a very long time

politicians since pre Lincoln, LINCOLN, post Lincoln have spoken half truths & out right lies concerning the subject of states rights; doesn't matter if it has been the slavery issue, the marijuana issue, the immigration issue, or anything else

immigration is likely one of the only issues I MAY agree with Trump on BUT the jury is certainly still out on this one

the immigration issue does not IMO have the immense weight of other issues and does not call for me, or IMO others, to support Trump & his totalitarian leanings ........

I do not believe Trump would mess with that federal money as it's not connected to sanctuary cities.

It may receive a lot of money from the federal government but it is still a net contributor to Washington. Considering the size of California's economy that is a rather good ratio of debt.

Anybody that lives here knows that California already is a sanctuary state. It's why so many 3rd and 4th generation Californians have moved to Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

True, but that would only benefit California in this case if they could somehow legally withhold a dollar of the money they send to the federal government for every dollar the federal government withholds from California. And I don't see how that would be possible.

Your link also shows California as 39th in percapita federal spending and number 1 in funding to Washington. Perhaps you should have used 2015 numbers but they would have reduced the debt wall by nearly 100 billion.
California is the technical and agricultural hub of this country. They have just recently survived the greatest damage in the housing market crash, a 6 year drought, several horrendous fire seasons, and now flooding and mudslides.
Yet they are stronger now than they were before. Perhaps we should be applauding their actions and fortitude for being the American example they are.

If Trump forces the right to spend on infrastructure, he might actually accomplish one useful thing....

Breaking Federal law is no reason to celebrate or applaud! They will lose the battle with the federal government!

According to the article, fully 10% of the California workforce are illegal aliens.

That's a pretty stunning number.
That sounds awfully high, but I suppose it could be.
Around here, in the "red" parts of the state that tend to be more rural and agricultural, employers like the illegals. Farmers, in fact, say that they couldn't bring in the crops without them.
So, there's a lot of support for California being a sanctuary state, yes, and it's not just coming from San Francisco liberals.

As for infrastructure, there's a pressing need to address that one as well. The problems with the Oroville Dam are really just the tip of the iceberg. Highways are seriously in need of repair and upgrade. Levies, some of them built during the gold rush, need repair. There needs to be more water infrastructure so that water we get in an extreme wet year like this one can be stored for later use. The forest areas are getting overgrown and fire prone. There is a lot to do.

I can't think of another state more "in need" after the number of federal dollars have poured into your state the past decade while the jobs have exodus out of your state.

Now either you all rise up and say enough to the feckless environmentalists who seem to have taken control of your state to the point some can't no longer make a living....either take back your state and allow it to become business friendly so companies won't continue the exodus of recent years...... either you stop this mindset to illegals mi casa es su casa or you wil be in a world of hurt. And I for one and am no way open to bailing you all out.

California still has the eighth largest economy in the world, bigger than that of Russia.
I don't foresee the feds having to bail it out any time soon.

Not sure where you are getting your information but the economy in California has been greatly compromised by the number of businesses that are exodusing the state. Arizona, Texas are rejoicing because of California's fecklessness. And you are not even acknowledging the billions that have been poured into California from the federal government over the last 8 years to keep it afloat.

Cut the federal government grants and other monies off and your taxes will surely rise and more businesses will exit stage right. If Californians do not want to be in this union and abide by the federal law on immigration, then let Californians pay for it.

And as far as that dam that broke surely you are aware that during the Obama administration millions upon millions poured into California for infrastructure but instead of using it at sites that really needed it they claimed they spent the money on places that didn't have a problem why? because they used the money elsewhere. So here we are...... a Californian complaining about all the infrastructure needed in his state yet money was already appointed for such things and their feckless government did not use it on such things.

California passed a bond to repair the dam, but never used it. Why, I'm not sure. Certainly, with 20 20 hindsight, the dam should have been addressed some years ago.

As for California's economy, these are the data I was addressing:

1

I think rumors of California's demise are highly exaggerated.

And how much of that is the federal government feeding your state with countless grants etc?

But if you are claiming you are doing so well, we need to scale back federal spending. If California is doing so well and wants to remain a sanctuary state, fine do it on your dime not the rest of the country. California has gotten extra special treatment under Obama. That's about to end.

Sounds like a plan. Let's quit sending money to the feds, and they can quit sending it to California. Just bring back the Bear Flag Republic and let California be independent.
