I agree. Let's hear it.

There's a recording of the conversation Flynn had in December with the Russian Ambassador on the same day Obama announced punitive measures against Russia.

Michal Flynn & Russia -- Release the Tape of Call with Russian Ambassador | National Review

Doesn't seem like it should be classified secret, does it? I mean, Flynn at the time was just a retired Army officer.

Nor was he an elected official, or according to the NYT report shown to be acting on behalf of the Presidential candidate.

If there is an investigation and it shows some kind of criminality, that would be the time for the information to be presented. Isn't that what all the Hillary supporters said about the FBI investigation?

Meanwhile, why not wait until the investigator's present the facts themselves? Why assume the worst based on "unnamed sources" alleged to be "current and former government officials" talking about "an ongoing investigation?"

I've never been supportive of the court of public opinion simply because people typically like drama and prefer to consider information in the most damning (read titillating) way possible.

I tend to agree that that might be political astute, if it does no intelligence related damage.

Doesn't it seem like the tape would exonerate Flynn? He denied any mention of sanctions, knowing there was a recording of the conversation.

If Flynn was a private citizen, and he was, then to my mind it would be inappropriate for the government to release recordings of private conversations.

My suspicion is that the recording would exonerate Flynn and maybe implicate whomever tossed him under the bus.

Hm, interesting.
Even if Flynn knew the conversation would be recorded?

No, he was expected incoming National Security Adviser, he had been that since mid NOV, he was working for Trump.

I think it is more likely he was talking about a lot of different issues, and that the Russian might have brought sanctions up and he made some off the wall response.

I mean, what promises could he make when we all recognize that Trump can and will change his position if he thinks it merits it.

I'll be interested if it ever comes out. It's almost down to hours- what time was the sanctions announced and what time was the call made?
For some reason, I think somebody's exploiting Flynn's loyalty.

Yes. The government should not release private conversations, even with foreign nationals, even with the presumption it may be recorded. The government should default to the interests of citizens. If such a tape becomes part of a criminal case, then and only then would the situation change to my mind.

Or it would uncover that he really did.

Like I said elsewhere here, I wonder if somebody's taking cynical advantage of his loyalty.

Exonerate him of what?

Well, of going behind the back of his President on his own, I guess. I think he was told to make the call, and told to keep it secret.

What if Flynn asks for their release?

I agree the government shouldn't just release or leak recorded information especially if it looks more political than exposing criminal behaviour. However if Flynn wants them release because it disproves some rumors surrounding the conversation in think the government should comply as long as secrets are not revealed

Actually, when I asked the question, I didn't know what the logan act which makes it illegal for a private citizen to negotiate with a foreign government. Its an obscure law, but either we're a country of laws or we aren't. If there was a quid-quo-pro discussed in the phone call with the russkie over the sanctions then you could have a case, i suppose.

Is he asking for their release? If so, I was not aware of it(which is very possible). That would change things, and then depends on a lot of factors. Discussion of possibly classified material and how it would affect a potential criminal case in the future spring to mind as possible problems. I would not have a problem with the release in that case in general, but specific facts could change that.
