Historians Say 11 Presidents Were Better Than Obama

I would say that it takes at least a full decade or ten years to put between a President and any true evaluation of them. For example, both Truman and Eisenhower were not rated very highly as they left office but both have gained in stature over time.

No surprise that the top three here are the same as in almost every other poll of historians and political scientists. This is a good summary of previous polling

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_presidents_of_the_United_States

My top three would be Franklin Roosevelt , Abe Lincoln and George Washington and I think you can make a good argument for those three in any order you want to move them around in.

And Obama was better than 32 of them. You say the glass is 1/3 empty, I say it's 2/3 full. All a matter of perspective, good sir. :)

being the best is all based on opinion

we have had presidents that have done things in direct violation of The US Constitution; Lincoln was likely one of the worst violators

US Presidents take an oath to uphold The Constitution; IMO that really means nothing

I went to the link and I noticed there that George W. Bush is ranked with the bottom 10.

It will be interesting to see where Trump is ranked in the future,eh?

91 cherry picked "historians" weigh in.

Woodrow Wilson? ****ing seriously? I rest my case.

Woodrow Wilson actually usually places in the top 10 or very close to it, in both surveys of historians and the general public. And it is not exactly a new phenomenon either. He fundamentally changed the course of America.

You must understand though. There were Democrats on the list, so it can't be right.

I'd agree that it takes a little more time to evaluate. Lincoln is my number one, without question.

trump likes Andrew Jackson the Trail of Tears president best apparently. That's whos pic he has on his desk.

Of course leftist profs and rank and file libs would like Wilson. No surprises there.

Absolute last I'm sure.

The man who started America's course towards superpower status? You cannot deny he a fundamental effect on America's place in the world.

I'm very much of the same mind, that it takes a number of years, 10 - 20 or so, in order to get any sort of a read as to how 'good' a president was.

Well, there are academics who have reached other conclusions.

"Texas A&M Study Calls Obama 5th Best President in America

Good research work by a fine institution.

OBAMA RATED 5TH BEST PRESIDENT IN OUR HISTORY

From a total of 44 US Presidents, Obama has been rated as the 5th best according to a study completed at Texas A&M University. The Public Relations Office at A&M released this statement: “After only 5 years in office, Americans have rated President Obama the 5th best President in U.S. history.”

These are the results according to Texas A&M:

1. Reagan & Lincoln tied for first
2. Seventeen presidents tied for second
3. Twenty-three other presidents tied for third
4. Jimmy Carter came in fourth, and…
5. Obama was fifth."

Carter was fifth. Dismissed out of hand.

I see a lot of reverence for Lincoln; what a shame .......

It's a close call, but I would say there's a case to be made either way.

I meant fourth, and my point is, that Carter isn't second to last, just above O'Bama, proves beyond the shadow of any doubt, that this list is..... BULL****.

Ya think?

But this is literally all based on opinion, so this list really doesn't matter to begin with.

Just because you do not agree with the list does not mean it is bull****, if you have a problem go make your own damn list.
