The Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.

Four states that border on Mexico are included in the proposal — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — but it also encompasses seven states contiguous to those four — Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the AP report was "100 percent not true" and "irresponsible." ''There is no effort at all to utilize the National Guard to round up unauthorized immigrants," he said.

I hope Spicer is telling the truth.....for once.

Is he denying the memo exists or saying the plan has changed?
A lot can change in a month, apparently.

He's saying the whole thing isn't true and DHS is backing him up.

I suspect Spicer is not telling the truth.. just a version of it.

I would not be surprised that this plan was one of many put on the table before Trump won, and discussed after. That it was leaked, probably means that they were getting more serious about it, and maybe were about to start talking to the individual governors they trusted to get a feel for the plan. So by leaking it, it was basically DOA, and now the White House is playing damage control (yet again) by denying that there ever was such a plan or idea.

Problem is, we know that Trump wanted to round up the illegals, and the only way to do that, is either by hiring tons of new ICE employees (goes against the employment stop), mobilize the military to do it (against the law) and that basically leaves one alternative... this one.

But I have no doubt that the Trumpetts will defend Spicer and Trump tooth and nail, and even if we actually get the document in question, it will be labelled fake news or Trump will use it to start closing down media outlets for breaking some sort of national security or whatever.. not like he has not threatened to hunt down leakers before.

Defend Trump from what? Lies that are made up out of whole cloth?

You need to pay attention. I made sure I quoted the part where Spicer denied it, and no where did I comment on it being 100%. Jesus Christ Maggie.

Your thread title is a lie.

I think calling-out the guard was indeed one of the options the administration considered, and the document may indeed be legit.

The AP article does cite a great deal of specifics. And this is exactly the stuff Steve Bannon would consider doing.

But it's mere existence does not imply it will be carried out. It does however show the administration's mindset that it would be considered.

There are five "lies" if you believe they were said intentionally and not mistakes. Of the thousands of sound bytes he has passed along, this hardly qualifies as "for once."

That was just one quick post. Do a google search of "Sean Spicer gets caught lying" and see what pops up.

What does his thread title say?
The thread title is the title of the article. It is fairly normal practice on DP to use the article title as the thread title (mandatory in breaking news section). I have been dinged for not doing so in the BNS.

That's what I do. I refuse to start a thread in that section ever again.
