For those of us old enough to remember the bad old days of Watergate and Richard Nixon, I wonder how many are reminded of that scandal right now with the Russian/Trump scandal? Not that it is exactly the same thing as there are obvious differences. But there are plenty of similarities.

I was born in 49 and followed Watergate closely for two years until its conclusion. As I taught Government for the next 33 years, so I also followed the Iran Contra scandal, the Whitewater Scandal, the Benghazi scandal and other dust ups over the in between fifty years. None of those felt like Watergate. They all failed to rise to that level.

But this one feels much much different. Far more serious than any of those and with details eerily reminiscent of the Nixon administration and how they badly mishandled the entire Watergate situation at almost every step.

This is NOT a poll. I would like to hear from older posters who lived through and remember Watergate and get their feelings and impressions about any similarity or differences between Watergate and the current Russian/Trump scandal.

Not in the least. Sounds more like wishful thinking.

Trump supporters everywhere:

Are you able to expound upon this? How old were you during Watergate?

Hard to say. For every real Watergate, there have been countless gates that never panned out.

The failed gates all have one common thread
The opposition party ( this time democrats ) swings for the fences and breathlessly hypes it as the scandal that will end all scandals.

It sounds like Trump is actually the product of a long running Russian operation to overthrow the United States. Near as I can tell from what I've seen on CNN and MSNBC, and what I've read on Politico, the Washington Post and the New York Times, and what I've heard from Democrat members of congress who all have completely unimpeachable credentials, this Soviet plan to take over America was initiated more than a year ago. They specially trained Donald Trump and his staff on how to manipulate the press against Hillary. They infiltrated small towns across rural America and turned the bumpkins minds to borscht. They went to great lengths to stir up the inherent venom of the white man so that they would oppose the legacy of the finest Black American ever to grace our nation (PBBO).

Here's my real concern. Every time the Democrats cry that the nasty right wing is influenced by something or will do some horrible thing it turns out that THEY are the ones influenced by it or THEY are the ones who do it. My concern, Haymarket, is that we're going to find out before long that there has been a great Marxist conspiracy in this nation to wipe out Constitutional Republicanism, to destroy individual liberty and replace it with "Human Rights" dictates, and to eradicate Capitalism.

My concern is that the pinko, commie, tree hugging, flag burning, dope smoking liberals want to hand the nation built on the backs of our forefathers over to the Globalist cabal.

Oh, brother. Care to cite some examples of the bolded?

It won't feel like Watergate until we have a modern day 'Deep Throat'.

I was born in 36 and have lived through everything since and during FDR.

The connection I make with Watergate and the Trump administration thus far is the undeniable fact that major media hates this President and are hell bent on bringing him down as they did Nixon. Every move Trump makes, the DNC and their allied major leftist media attempt to make blood in the water over it.

An example in fact at present is the "FEDERAL CASE" major leftist media is making over General Flynn and his resignation. Democrats and leftist media are attempting to make a criminal case out of the fact that Flynn talked to the Russians before the Trump inauguration and Flynn became the official National Security Advisor. Exactly how that computes into a crime, I have no clue. In my opinion an incoming NSA should be talking to the leaders of every and any nation he/she see fit to communicate with. Any law forbidding same is absurd in my opinion.

We should all take note that the Democrats, major leftist media and even their allied neo-cons John McCain and Lindsey Graham are crying for public hearings about Flynn's discussions with the Russians, but little to no outcry is forthcoming from that gang of 3 Trump haters for hearings and investigations into WHO committed the real crime and leaked from our intelligent agencies the classified material about the Flynn talks with the Russians to the national media, a flagrant felonious biased political hate crime.

You feel as if there is a _______gate in the future. Can you be a little more vague?

That reply makes no sense to the post from me you led with pretending to reply to it.

Maybe if Trump didn't sleep with Russian Prostitutes none of this would have happened.

How were liberals and the media responsible for what Nixon and his staff did themselves?

Yes, but with treason.

It doesn't feel like Watergate, but with Trump there is a definite air of ethical issues I see with him that he simply doesn't care about.

I wasn't even alive. I'm just commenting that your desire to see some scandal bring down a republican president is so great that it's clouding your judgement.

Who's the Deep Throat in the current story?

How were liberals and the media responsible for what Nixon and his staff did themselves?

Where did I say that?

Major leftist media hated Nixon and dug through the trash heap of Washington politics endlessly until they found the garbage to bring down Nixon. I have no problem with honest investigative journalism. I do have problems with investigative journalist who only investigate opposing ideologically minded government figures and in their meantime bend over backwards to make excuses and or ignore the political sins of their politically minded comrades.

Where was Obama during Benghazi? Why didn't he know his Secretary Of State had a private email server in her basement? Where were the leftist investigative reporters?

Given that you think this was a 'Soviet' plot, when the Soviets haven't been around for decades, you might consider other concerns than tree huggers and dope smokers. Like historical literacy.

Wow.

I didn't vote for Trump or Clinton. But I would like to know WHAT ethical issues have you noticed that he doesn't care about?
