Does this feel like Watergate all over again ?

Are you mad they're copying the GOP's playbook from 2008-2016?

The levels of pure unadulterated hate being spewed forth today are orders of magnitude worse than anything we saw during the Obama admin. Yes, there were a handful of incidents that were pure dumbassery during the OA, but we've seen that standard eclipsed before Pees. Trump even took the Oath of Office.

LOL. 8 years of non-stop squealing about how Obama is a Kenyan born radical muslim sleeper agent bent on destroying America and crowning himself king, and you want to sit there and act like what we're seeing today is far worse? Abso-****ing-lutely not. We've never seen such hyperbole as we saw in 2008-2016 and I've yet to see anyone try to de-legitimize Donald by claiming he's not even an American.

Especially considering Donald was one of the creators and flag bearers of that hyperbolic trolling I say he deserves at least that bad or worse. We're all just getting warmed up. **** him and his razor thin skin.

The OMG!! RUSSIA!!! narrative was floated as soon as Trump won as a means to delegitimize his Presidency. I see this as merely an extension of that narrative only this time it probably involves illegal wiretapping and the leaking of top secret information.

If Flynn broke a law by discussing sanctions with the Russians prior to being sworn in then so be it. The law is the law so let him have his day in court. The more troubling aspect to this is how these conversations got recorded, and the MOST troubling aspect to this is how those recordings got leaked. What's next, a straight up attempt at a coup?

So you're one of those who, if they were honest, would have a marching chant of "MAKE THINGS WORSE!!! MAKE THINGS WORSE!!! MAKE THINGS WORSE!!!"

The liberals are scared out od their wits. They stand to see most of the ill begot privilege fall prey to the backlash from those, whose rights had been trampled. In the building hysteria they prefer to do damage in the hope it will stop the unavoidable. Rather than being positivistic, that is.

No, in Watergate the problem was a President and a few people around him, now the problem is a completely broken Washington driven by a corrupt elite class.

This is much much bigger, and much much more difficult to fix.

Far from Watergate. Watergate was local. This is global.

Your scenario was no scenario....

Something may happen.... That ain't a scenario.

For those of us old enough to remember the bad old days of Watergate and Richard Nixon, I wonder how many are reminded of that scandal right now with the Russian/Trump scandal? Not that it is exactly the same thing as there are obvious differences. But there are plenty of similarities.

I was born in 49 and followed Watergate closely for two years until its conclusion. As I taught Government for the next 33 years, so I also followed the Iran Contra scandal, the Whitewater Scandal, the Benghazi scandal and other dust ups over the in between fifty years. None of those felt like Watergate. They all failed to rise to that level.

But this one feels much much different. Far more serious than any of those and with details eerily reminiscent of the Nixon administration and how they badly mishandled the entire Watergate situation at almost every step.

This is NOT a poll. I would like to hear from older posters who lived through and remember Watergate and get their feelings and impressions about any similarity or differences between Watergate and the current Russian/Trump scandal.

Nope.

It feels like hysteria by the opposition.

How old were you during Watergate?

How old were you during Watergate?

I was 20, I think, when it first came about. I was glued to it. I remember the slight news of the initial event that led to where it went. I was captivated. All the way through Nixon's second election. I was floored. But I learned how fickle people are, without having time afforded by society to pursue the truth. Gotta work.

I was a rather young pangalactic hyperintelligent being at the time, but I remember it. Have studied it in detail.

I suppose you could draw certain parallels.... if you're really determined to.

Personally, no I don't feel that way.

I respect your right to not reveal your age. But the OP is designed for older posters to be able to compare that experience with the beginning of a new one today. Nobody can acquire that simply by study of that period any more than you or I can know what it was like to live day after day during the Civil War or the Great Depression.

No clue at all about the intentionally vague non-scenario you presented.

And you may wish to READ the definition before posting it.

Perhaps you no comprende 'details' the same as the rest of us.

Vague BS is vague BS.

you really do not have a clue.

The dictionary definition of SCENARIO fits my post to a tee. I gave you evidence. You give me mere attacks on me.

Lets get this clear right now without wasting a lot of time: knowing you from recent previous interactions - you will continue to attack and continue to try and hijack this thread and continue to change the subject so something you do not approve of is not discussed by others and most importantly of all - you will to try and get in the last word. So here you go. You can get in the last word right now. Do it and I will not reply or disagree.

The floor is yours and then the thread can move on and not be bogged down by your tactics which I have seen too many times already.

Um Hi I SAID I remember it.

Details = Extremely vague....

Got it.

It reminds me of Watergate and the Iran Contra matter, but this is worse. We're talking about collusion between a campaign's operatives with an enemy foreign nation to interfere with American democracy and elections. It's unprecedented in our history, if true. And it's not looking good for the Trump administration.

Plus there are other concerns. Bizarre behavior by Trump, to say the least, taking some to question his mental health. And a statement by a political operative in his inner circle that whatever they do "will not be questioned." That's in direct opposition to the American democratic system of government, where the government not only can be questioned, but must be questioned. That's part of our democracy. A check on runaway power grabbing by autocrats, which the Founding Fathers set up, in anticipation of this (being from a monarchy themselves).

The bigger concern is what is going on with our intelligence services. We all know DC is not just a leaky bucket but a colander with sensitive information getting released.

The real ___gate may be the discovery of people or groups within agencies that are acting on behalf of their former political party and bosses, that’s direct and blatant treason.

Let’s keep in mind, Flynn was picked for a reason, having a connection with foreign counterparts is an interracial part of that job, did he get over zealous pre or post his nomination thumbs up, I don’t know that, in fact none know this as fact in the context of the 218 year old Logan act.

As I stated, what is concerning for me are the leaks coming out of our intelligence services. It’s obvious they are politicly motivated. These leaks true or not hint or show our hand with surveillance with all overseas communications with certain nations regardless of encryption protection on their part.

The leaks are not the story. Leaks have always been around and will always be around.

It is not obvious they are politically motivated at all. This matter is beyond political party. We should all be on the same side in this. It's very serious and concerns an enemy foreign nation trying to control our country. Russia and the United States do not have the same goals and are very different in every way.

It's disingenuous of Trump to suddenly become anti-leak, when he loved Wikileaks during the campaign. He stated openly he LOVED the leaks. He asked Russia from the campaign podium & on national tv to step up the hacking so there would be more leaks about the emails. Shortly afterward, there was another dump on Wikileaks. Trump loves leaks.

But leaks by Americans to Americans is a very different thing from a foreign country hacking Americans and leaking the information, or politicians and their operatives colluding with an enemy foreign nation to interfere in our election process and government. The latter is much more serious and has been under investigation for some time. In fact, IF intelligence were against Trump, that investigation would have leaked BEFORE the election...that intelligence knew that Trump's team was communicating with Russia on a regular basis for over a year.

Diversion. Deflection. That's what you want.

Leaks are a danger when not convenient. Just consider it karma.
