Did President Trump get a mandate?

I'd say a president who wins in a true landslide, like Reagan did in 1984, has a mandate. Presidents who win by the seat of their pants, like Bush Jr and Trumpy, do not.

How about Johnson getting all but 52 electoral votes against Goldwater. That is a mandate. I would disagree with brewerbob somewhat by increasing the margin. A mandate would (IMHO) require a SOLID majority like 65%. Just over 50% is debatable.

The point is that your definition is wrong. Having a mandate to do something has nothing to do with how may votes and everything to do with who won.

Then so is yours since he was using yours

Nixon had a definite mandate in '72, but by 74, he was out. Sometimes even a mandate is an illusion, I guess.

Hell, Obama in 2008 had a mandate.

Trump wishes he won in the same manner as Obama did in 2008.

I certainly believed Obama had a solid victory worthy of being called a mandate. And, we all saw how the Right treated that. So, this whine they have now about us ignoring a "mandate" by picking on poor Trump is just another lie---like everything else they say.

Probably not a mandate, a true mandate is rare. However, he did run a campaign on promise to do certain things. He has an obligation to do all he can to fulfill those promises.

True, except that it is an opinion, not a fact.

When did anyone say it's a fact? It seems like you've finally accepted that I'm correct and that this isn't a "fake word" but just wanted to try to find something to hang your hat on so you go to "but it's not a fact". I know I never said it was a fact. It's an opinion. That still doesn't make it fake. Quit using white house talking points. Calling everything fake just brings your own credibility in to question.
