In Race for DNC Chair, Tom Perez Pledges to Woo Back Red, Rural America - NBC News

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Perez

Obama's former Secretary of Labor Tom Perez garnished endorsements from Biden and Holden in his bid to Chair the DNC. I definitely do not want Ellison, who leans way too far left. IMO, California-based Move On drives too much of the Progressive agenda. We need a message that resonates with the Rust Belt, the rest of the nation, and the disaffected voters who for lack of clear better choice, voted for our current President Billionaire Buffoon.

I support Perez.

I do not know much about him, but the short info I have read indicates that he is a fine candidate, when he has collected some foreign affairs and more executive experience. Seeing the growing importance of international security, we do not need a social projects lawyer chairing a major party.

So, if Perez can mimic Priebus, the former RNC Chair, by learning how to play piano (oh yeah, Priebus can play piano), pick up foreign affairs and more executive experience, then he might make a good choice as Chair of the DNC? Maybe Perez can take a Crash Course and find someone from Team Trump to tutor him! I love the opinions expressed here in DP!

And you think that that justifies choosing a person with a suboptimal CV?

What has Ellison said or done to turn you off to him?

Curriculum Vitea? Like Team Trump? I appreciate your Superior Optimal Independent view and non-voting, limited to spectating and commenting only role in choosing the next DNC Chair. All grins!

Is that a detriment to political appointment any longer?

I wish I could be so negligently frivolous. ;)

You may have noted in my OP my reference to Ellison leaning way too far left. He has paid Lip Service to regretting his past ties to The Nation of Islam. Nonetheless, IMO, those past ties detract from his ability to woe critical more centrist-leaning demographic voters. NJ Senator Booker would make a great choice. Senator Booker probably has a different path to higher places in mind. Like Perez,I have a much stronger connection to the American East Coast than West Coast. Progressives already dominate the American West Coast. I want a DNC Spokesperson committed to truly unifying Americans, improving the common welfare for the most Americans and assembling a confident and capable team to attain their goals. At this point, IMO, Perez presents the best option as the next DNC Chair.

Let me guess, like Trump, your subject knowledge, sensitivity and kind nature preclude you from negligent frivolity? From my skewed perspective, we both have honorably stayed true to ourselves. I have genuine appreciation for grace, for honor, for humor and for Love! May our Best Times lie ahead!

DNC chair is essentially a political strategist, fundraiser and organizer, not policy. I'm not sure where foreign policy experience enters into the job description except to be perceptive enough to recognize if/when the public is demanding that expertise at the very top of their list, and identifying those candidates, and supporting them.

What has Ellison said or done to turn you off to him?
Anti-Semitic, bigoted, Black nationalist, believer in a religion which calls for violence.

If you wish the democratic party to continue dividing this country, by all means, support him.

The GOP is praying that Ellison gets the nod. They've already got all their smears lined up against him and he will be more toxic than DWS, if that's possible. Sanders and his campaign chair will further divide DEMs by pushing for Ellison .

I really wonder if Ellis's past is really as big a deal as people are worried about. Conservatives threw the Kenyan-Muslim-Manchurian-candidate kitchen sink at Obama and they failed, and the reason they failed is because he was an eminently charismatic and likable human being who came across sincerely.

I'll be honest, I'm really only just starting to learn anything about Ellis. I've literally only heard him on one podcast interview and in an interview on the Daily Show, so obviously take what I have to say with a gigantic grain of salt. That said, I was impressed with his energy and sincerity. And yes, he seemed very charismatic.

Like it or not, charisma wins elections. It always has.

Many Republican strategists pray Ellison becomes the next DNC Chair. I don't claim expertise... but I can remember what I felt listening to Obama for my first time. He made a riveting speech at the 2004 Convention. When Ellison finds that kind of stage and captures the imagination of millions of voters, he can make a believer out of me. I registered as a Democrat in 1974. In the ensuing years, I've only gone to a few meetings and don't think I have ever signed a Loyalty Pledge. When it comes to POTUS, I have always voted D. Even with the Democratic Party lying in shambles and in need of major overhaul, they remain my best hope for the future of the United States.

All you need to know about the smears that will be thrown at Ellison is to read anti-Ellison posts.

It's just like Sen. Warren. There's a legion of haters ready to smear her at a moment's notice, as we saw with McFilibuster's actions.

I don't think it's a job one person can do anymore, as with the RNC going with Romney's niece and another co-chair named Paduchik. The bad news is the GOP has their complete team in place well ahead of the DEMs.

To that end, I would support co-chairs Perez and Buttigieg .

I had to look up Buttigieg... A bit embarrassing.

Don't know much about him but he seems like a good candidate. He is what the party needs more of - young, energetic leaders. And the fact he's gay AND a veteran and a successful politician is unique and seems like a good face for the party. I also like Perez and he has a good record at DOL to run on.

Buttigieg is a successful mayor of South Bend in the type of state that DEMs must improve in. I don't want just one person heading the DNC, just as the RNC doesn't do now.

Let's spread the GOP smears out and allow both co-chairs to focus on their strengths .

The thing I'm most looking forward to is purging the leadership of the Clinton loyalists. Nothing against them personally, really, but they failed, lost a winnable election to the most polarizing candidate in decades, and did miserably in down ballot races, underperforming nearly across the board.

Great. The dems continue to try and force the party to lurch to the right. Because that's worked so well for them. /Sarcasm

Different strokes for different folks. Even though Bernie didn't stand a chance in the Florida primary, I voted for him because of what he stands for. Bernie turns 76 later this year. He continues to do his part to set a positive agenda. IMO, he has no chance of regaining Presidential momentum. If Progressives want to pursue a serious leadership role in setting a national agenda, who do you have in mind to lead the DNC? What prospective DEM Presidential candidates at this early stage do you expect to emerge?

If Democrats want to get thrashed in 2018, go with Ellison and give McConnell a filibuster proof Senate, make no inroads in the federal House, and forget about flipping state legislatures and governors who write state and federal remaps.

Perez has plenty of liberal credentials when one reads past the headlines, but is s common sense left of center Democrat .

IMO, the centrist/center right agenda of the clinton era DLC wing of the democratic party has failed the the democratic party. Bernie breathed life into the party with excitement and direction. That "third way" garbage will fail the dems again if they control the DNC and the direction for the dems. They promote running candidates only in safe states and just alienated Howard Dean's 50 state strategy to instead go for only safe state, blue wall strategy in running.

I back Bernie because I trust Bernie and his message is spot on. Bernie backs Keith Ellison and if he doesn't get the DNC chair, it'll be the dems rebuking Bernie and his wing of the Dem party to opt for that failing centrist strategy. A strategy which is to try and run as Republican lite. It'll mean they haven't learned the obvious lesson that... why would anyone vote for a republican lite when they can get an actual republican instead. Simple lesson to learn and they don't want to seem to learn it. Keith Ellison all the way.

God Bless! I appreciate your reasons and even more, your staying true to yourself. Can we count on each other to support the winning candidate? Right now I support Perez.
