San Francisco community college to offer free tuition for city residents | TheHill

A community college in San Francisco will now offer free tuition to all city residents under a new deal San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee (D) announced this week.

The city has agreed to pay $5.4 million per year to pay for the $46-per-credit free that students usually pay, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The agreement that will make college education free for residents through the City College of San Francisco is expected to begin in the fall.
Any San Francisco resident who has lived in the city for at least one full year will be eligible for the deal, regardless of income.

I like it. I don't see a way to Bernie's plan of free 4 year college but community college and trade schools can be doable.

Agreed. The thought of free bachelors degrees is frightening. We already have college graduates unable to find decent jobs in their fields. Can you imagine what a disaster it would be if EVERYONE had a four year degree. Tuition-free trade schools and associate degrees makes so much more economic sense.

Community college and trade schools should already have been free nationwide, and higher colleges not free. A country that is educated produces better workers, which produces better products which is necessary to compete in a world market.

Not sure what community college costs now, but when I was going through high school, it was like 45 bucks a year for some classes like mechanic plumber hvac tech etc plus books(thats where they got ya)

It ain't gonna be free. They'll be extorted for it, with increased taxes.

Pay up suckers.
