Ex-Obama Official Suggests ‘Military Coup’ Against Trump

Ex-Obama Official Suggests 'Military Coup' Against Trump

Advocating a military coup against a duly elected, sitting president... one wonders how this is not treason.

Did you read the original article? She was postulating on what actions the military and or country might take if Trump were to call for "dangerously unhinged" actions by the military.
The fourth possibility is one that until recently I would have said was unthinkable in the United States of America: a military coup, or at least a refusal by military leaders to obey certain orders.

The principle of civilian control of the military has been deeply internalized by the U.S. military, which prides itself on its nonpartisan professionalism. What’s more, we know that a high-ranking lawbreaker with even a little subtlety can run rings around the uniformed military. During the first years of the George W. Bush administration, for instance, formal protests from the nation’s senior-most military lawyers didn’t stop the use of torture. When military leaders objected to tactics such as waterboarding, the Bush administration simply bypassed the military, getting the CIA and private contractors to do their dirty work.

But Trump isn’t subtle or sophisticated: He sets policy through rants and late-night tweets, not through quiet hints to aides and lawyers. He’s thin-skinned, erratic, and unconstrained — and his unexpected, self-indulgent pronouncements are reportedly sending shivers through even his closest aides.

What would top U.S. military leaders do if given an order that struck them as not merely ill-advised, but dangerously unhinged? An order that wasn’t along the lines of “Prepare a plan to invade Iraq if Congress authorizes it based on questionable intelligence,” but “Prepare to invade Mexico tomorrow!” or “Start rounding up Muslim Americans and sending them to Guantánamo!” or “I’m going to teach China a lesson — with nukes!”
She's not advocating for a coup or suggesting one. She's speculating on what would happen if Trump were to order something that is clearly deranged.

You may argue that those hypotheticals are far fetched, but to pretend as though she is calling for a coup is false. Next time you read Breitbart, please do us all the favor of researching it before posting pure trash like this.

I think for it to be treason, step one out of the gate is somewhere in the article she has to, you know, advocate for a military coup, which she does not do. Discussing it isn't treason - or, if it is, you just committed treason, and the two of you can share a cell!

Sheesh, just noticed the source - Breitbart..... That's a click I can't take back. SAD!

She also sounds like a partisan hack... or idiot.

Making up such scenarios hurts America.

In fact, in Nixon's time, it was the rumor that the military brass had discussed what legal actions they could take if the CIC ordered the same against those who would remove him from the White House.

I'm afraid that if anyone could talk our military into a coup, they would round up the Democratic Congress and throw them all into the Potomac.

She'd best be careful what she wishes for.

As long as she is just some person speaking completely hypothetically in a magazine this doesn't hurt us a bit. Breitbart and right wingers lying about what was said does actually hurt us because then other mindless twats are going to go around believing that ex-obama officials are advocating for a military coup.

Leftists are hell bent on creating violent unrest in this country. One of these days, ****s going to get real...and when it does it will be all the foaming leftists that will have fanned the flames. Ignorant ****s.

Heres the upside. Morons like that ridiculous person are similar to the Hollywood leftist that realistically only make up a small percentage of the country. They may have enough influence to cause some small scale riots (and may inspire some retaliation attacks in the process)...but by and large...liberals are not leftists and while there are a large number of liberals that dont like Trump, they arent foaming hate filled leftists.

3 Ways to Get Rid of President Trump Before 2020 | Foreign Policy

Maybe that would make you feel less squidgy.

Yes, I clicked through Breitbart to the sourced article, and you apparently accurately quoted the headline, which is....the headline. The author doesn't generally write the headline.

Nowhere in the article does she advocate for a military coup. If you disagree, please quote her, but you can't so I'm not holding my breath.
What she did was cite 4 ways in which Trump could be removed from office, one of which was a military coup. Correct?

I notice you're not quoting her..... :doh

The answer to your question is yes, that's correct. And the obvious follow up to that is for a person to point out that a President can be removed by 1) election in 2020, 2) impeachment, 3) 25th Amendment, and 4) the military obviously CAN refuse to follow an insane order is not to advocate for any of them.

No surprise so many on the Right are unhinged- they read crap like that.

Sure it does. It gives, in this case, Liberal crybabies another excuse to riot and hurt people and business.

Yeah... you are right although I am not worried about Leftists but about Leftist Troublemakers...

Hold on...we'll get to that.

But yes...it is correct. She cited 4 ways in which Trump can be removed. NOW...keeping in mind that I didnt write either article nor post the OP...lets EXAMINE her words. Her actual words.

She didnt say "some day it may become necessary to remove Donald Trump." No. What she DID say is
-Are we really stuck with this guy?
-Yes, he is as crazy as everyone feared.
-Nope. In his first week in office, Trump has made it eminently clear that he meant every loopy, appalling word — and then some.
-Thus the question: Are we truly stuck with Donald Trump?
-It depends. There are essentially four ways to get rid of a crummy president.

And then she lists them.

Now...is she CALLING for a coup? Not directly (and I never said she was...so you might be addressing someone else).

But what she DID SAY quite clearly is that in the first week and a half she believes he has met criteria for removal and she has offered 4 ways that it can happen (one of which is just letting it ride for 4 years).

Regarding a coup...she ADMITS...that now she actually thinks its at least no longr unthinkable.
-The fourth possibility is one that until recently I would have said was unthinkable in the United States of America: a military coup, or at least a refusal by military leaders to obey certain orders.

So thats it. She HAS laid out what she believes is the REASON Trump should be removed and then offered thee ways he could b removed.

Wouldnt you agree that is an absolutely accurate accounting of her article?

Yeah... you are right although I am not worried about Leftists but about Leftist Troublemakers...
I'm worried that the leftist troublemakers will start something and then therewill be a response. Because just like the people running over the jagoffs blocking the street...sooner or later...****s going to get real.

Me too. I already thought about my response if I was blocked in by OWS assholes. What about people that have to get to the hospital... or just pick up their kid after babysitting late one night.

First of all, I was responding to the OP, who said, "Advocating a military coup against a duly elected, sitting president... one wonders how this is not treason. "

It's not 'treason' because she's not actually advocating for a military coup. She says IF the POTUS makes a deranged order, THEN the military could defy that order - refuse to carry it out. That's just a fact, a possibility, she lists no such deranged order, doesn't suggest that Mattis should order the military to detain Trump in the WH basement and rule in his stead, etc. She laid out the options, and that is not treason.

As to the rest of your comment, as far as I can tell we're splitting hairs about whether being critical of Trump is calling for his removal. I don't mean this as an insult to you, but I just do not care. We heard calls to impeach Obama for about 8 years, so whether this woman believed Trump has already met the test doesn't mean much to me.

Bottom line is people can read the article and conclude what they want from it as far as I care, except to assert that she's advocating for a military coup - that is a lie, or a falsehood based on reading the Breitbart headline but not the article itself.

Me too. I already thought about my response if I was blocked in by OWS assholes. What about people that have to get to the hospital... or just pick up their kid after babysitting late one night.
I dont know how I would react. Luckily I live in an area where it is extremely unlikely it would be tried. I find it positive that in none of those cases has there been a report of the drivers being cited. In Arizona when a man in a jeep ran over several protesters they rushed to the cop who was standing there and he shrugged and said "get out of the road".

Best to the tune of Luda's "Move Bitch"

The Right is already being prepped by its own media bubble (and articles like the one linked in the OP) to view all protesters as violent criminals and you (along with the rest of the Trump Cult) will be expected to heartily approve of the Bannon/Trump Administration's escalating orders limiting the civil rights of American citizens in response to sensationalized reports of civil disobedience.

Will that be "real" enough for you? Given your posting history, I kind of doubt it.

Well, hell, if they're going to make you late to the babysitter, obviously run them over, the vermin.

If there was an emergency I would run over protestors blocking my right to travel freely and unhindered.
