"The holocaust did not begin with killing, it began with words."

US Holocaust Museum's 'Signs of fascism' appears to be a stark warning | Metro News

Do i think we're on course to recreate Nazi Germany? Not a chance. The 265 million of us who didn't vote for President Trump heavily outnumber the 59 million who were seduced by his divisive rhetoric.

President Trump does hit an alarming number of those notes to varying degrees, but my impression is that he's using the manipulative tactics to gain personal wealth rather than try to exterminate people.

Where on earth do you come up with your numbers? And your opinions? 265 million didn't vote for Trump? 65 million seduced? I'm all ears.

If Trump wanted to use the Presidency for personal gain, he'd have backed Hillary, then bought her.

Seriously, the vast majority of non-fascist countries have dealt with the same issues as this thing lists. Maybe we should stop with the constant Nazi references, and deal with the issues instead.

If anything he might be a Mussolini or Putin and not a Hitler or Mao Tse Tung. But that is bad enough and he was made possible by the massive overshoot by liberals and their crude populist argumentation and handling of the law and citizen rights. Treading on others' rights created a strong backlash and about 75 percent of the population either accepted even Trump instead of a continuation of business as usual.

There is no real guilt in this case as there was in allowing the writer of Mein Kampf to become elected head of government and state. But it is certainly hardly deniable that we didn't know this guy was an extravagant risk that could literally kill us.

There are 325 million Americans and only about 60 million of them voted for President Trump.

My focus was specifically on reusing the methods of manipulating the will of the public and not on a crass equivalency.

Trump is not going to kill us. We are not that weak. Maybe if we stop with the over the top hysteria we can deal with the reality. Those of us who oppose most of what Trump wants to do need to worry about how best to do it, not whether Trump is the next Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot.

I'm pretty sure i already explicitly denied that President Trump is trying to usher in a Nazi Germany-esque rule.

I notice that everyone is playing the fallacious "comparisons to Hitler are never valid" card rather than addressing the merits of the entries on the list. Fascinating.

And let's not forget Berlusconi & Duterte, though we never expected men of their ilk to inherit the post of Leader of the Free World.

The damage Trump is doing internationally has the potential of mortally wounding the structure of our security aliance, atomizing the multilateral basis of our wealth and putting the dynamics of multipolarization on an accelerated tangent that could bring forwards the military clashes that we know are almost certain without establishing a robust mutual order. There are negotiational paths using Trump's method, but do you think that is what he intends?

I am surprised this is new to you. It was widely discussed in the last months. What is a little degoutant is to take the Holocaust Museum's note and then act surprised, when people think of Hitler.

.

Then why make a clickbait thread implying that?

It's not news, i'm not acting surprised. I explicitly disagreed with the sentiment that Trump = Hitler. This was going around on social media so i brought it here to discuss. I brought it here to discuss because i honestly believe that President Trump scores alarmingly high on this checklist.

- nationalism, yes, of course "Make America Great Again", "America First"
-disdain for human rights, yes; Mexico sends rapists, halt Muslim immigration, surveil mosques, ship US citizens to Guantanamo Bay without trial, etc.
- identifying an enemy to unite against, yes; Muslims, Mexicans, Chinese/free trade.
- pro-military, this one is a meh. President Trump doesn't seem terribly pro-military.
- sexist, uncontroversially yes; grabbing women by the *****, barging in on naked women as young as 15, calling women pigs, etc.
- control the media, absolutely yes; he's been trying to bully the media with his whining about bias, his attack on CNN, cutting funding for PBS/NPR, etc.
- obsession with national security, absolutely yes; halt Muslim immigration, surveil mosques, etc.
- religion and government mixing, yes intent to halt Muslim immigration, special protections for Christians, etc.
- protect corporate interests, yes of course, give cash handouts to the rich in the form of tax cuts, remove regulatory burdens so corporations can exploit the public and pollute our land, etc.
- hurt labor interests, yes i'd say he's anti labor union.
- anti-intellectuals and the arts, yes this is pretty ironclad too with all his derision at academia, experts, etc.
- obsessed with crime and punishment, yes, he's the "law and order" candidate, he threatened to invade Chicago with a federal police force, etc.
- protecting corruption/cronyism, absolutely yes, from Trump University to his vitamin scam, from his charities admission that it broke the law to its lack of transparency, President Trump seems to be the most corrupt major politician of my lifetime.
- fraudulent elections, this is the second one that i don't think there's evidence for.

9/14 Hell yes
3/14 Yes/maybe
2/14 No

That's pretty bad.

Then why make a clickbait thread implying that?

I found it elsewhere and i wanted to discuss it. What do you think? Does the list make you think of Hillary? If so, why? Which entries do you think do not apply to President Trump and why?

My opinion is rather limited and i'd honestly like to hear what other people have to say beyond the fallacious "all comparisons to Hitler are invalid".

Oh look... Another pre-Godwined post..... Let the hate flow....

That would require that people use intelligence rather than blind hate. Hate is EASY, intelligence requires effort...

There are 325 million Americans and only about 60 million of them voted for President Trump.

So that means that about 265 million didn't want Clinton either... Yeah, that's right your argument has this enormous hole in it that anyone with more than two connected brain cells can see right through. I expect that we'll see this number quoted over and over by those who can't see the hole or choose to ignore it and spread the hate...

Cherry=picking crap is cherry-picking crap. If you want I can show how the DNC is an incredibly fascist organization. Al I have to do focus on the attributes that back what I want you to see and ignore everythign else. Cherry-picking is a dishonest tactic used by those too intellectually weak to put forth a valid argument.

I didn't mention Clinton, i'm simply remarking that most Americans do not worship President Trump.

Please do make your case that the DNC is fascist by this list. I am genuinely interested in that type of argument. Thanks.

One would have to use intelligence rather than blind worship to contribute to the thread.

I haven't seen any blind worship of Pres. Trump, just a rejection of the the blind hate that spews forth from some folks here. On the issues where I support Pres. Trump, I can clearly state why and show facts to back up my choices. The same goes for the issues where I don't support Pres. Trump. All I see from the hate-spewing side of the discussion is stupid crap like this thread. Near zero intelligence, no rational, fact-based support, just blind hate.

I don't engage in intellectually dishonest activities. It's something that we all should be fighting to END, not spreading more of.
