Can we be worried about Trump NOW?

I think the time for level-headedness is over. We have a radical in the White House who is attacking the very principles that once made America great. You don't deal with radicals by being level-headed. The more you try to reason with them, the more they take over.

Talk is cheap at this point. Half the country could protest and it won't make a difference. Even the court stays of the immigration policy are only temporary. No one can stop King Trump from implementing his edicts and fracturing our relationship with the rest of the world.

But you don't understand.

It is The LEFT'S mindset that is radical. It is the LEFT that name calls us TRUMPTARDS, TRUMPSKIS, PUTIN BOOTLICKERS, HITLERIAN, NAZIS, FACISTS, SKINHEADS. It is the Left who says the POTUS has a severe personality disorder.

Look in the mirror.

Some people have cheered on the full frontal assault on our democratic values. To which I say in return:

It's star wars, I practically HAD to like it.

I don't identify as "left" and I've never called you any of those things.

Pointing out that some of Trump's policies are reminiscent of past fascists is not radical.

The problem here is that we can't have any reasonable discussion about what's going on because people are too busy demonizing their political opponents as ENEMIES.

I am NOT your enemy. I am your fellow country person. Get over it.

Trumps personality disorder resulting in a possible disabling mental illness is independent of ones political lean. It is Trumps alone.

Here, according to The APA, are the 9 criteria for “Narcissistic Personality Disorder”. If an individual has 5 out of the 9 they have a confirmed diagnosis of this illness. Many individuals have “traits” of narcissism but only about 1% of the population has clinical NPD.

“Summary : A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.
3. Believe that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with other special or high-status people (or institutions)
4. Requires excessive admiration
5. Has a sense of entitlement
6. Is interpersonally exploitative
7. Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
8. Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.
9. Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.”

The APA criteria for this identified disorder existed BEFORE Trump came on the political scene and was developed independently of Trump.

And I do NOT call you names Maggie for supporting Trump.

If you cannot admit that former President Obama and many other very powerful men possess at least five of these traits, then you are being disingenuous. One does not diagnose mental illness with a checklist.

And I agree. You don't. But most assuredly you have seen these names abound on this website of late.

So take Obama since he was your example. How many of those apply to him?

The government of Saudi Arabia has been a powerful and effective ally against terrorism.

I don't know that for sure, but on the Obama White House website:

Defense Cooperation: U.S. and Saudi defense forces enjoy outstanding partnerships and regularly participate in joint exercises to advance shared interests in Gulf security. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customer, with active and open cases valued at approximately $97 billion, as Saudi forces build capabilities across the full spectrum of regional challenges. The United States and Saudi Arabia currently are enhancing partnerships on critical infrastructure and border security, including on the Interior Ministry’s multi-billion dollar initiative to enhance land and coastal border defenses.

Counterterrorism: Saudi Arabia has been a strong U.S. counterterrorism (CT) partner, particularly on disrupting Al Qaeda (AQ) elements. We work closely with Saudi authorities on a range of CT issues, including countering terrorist financing (CTF), and the United States and Saudi Arabia work together to help various nations in the region counter shared terrorist threats.

Bilateral Trade and Investment: U.S. exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded $35 billion in 2013, including direct exports of $19 billion (a 76 percent increase since 2009) and roughly $2 billion in service exports (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction; Design; Financial; and Legal). Indirect exports and other goods and services were valued at an additional $15 billion. The bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement provides a forum for the United States and Saudi Arabia to explore ways to advance economic relations. Among other successes, Saudi Arabia has followed up on its commitment to improve its intellectual property rights regime since being removed from the United States Trade Representative’s Special 301 Watch List in 2010. Continual improvements in its intellectual property rights regime facilitate the Kingdom’s efforts to develop a diversified knowledge economy and improve the investment climate for U.S. businesses.

The 9/11 Commission found nothing linking Saudia Arabia to the attack. In a lawsuit brought by 9/11 families, a federal judge dismissed Saudi Arabia as a defendant citing insufficient evidence, and Obama vetoed a congressional bill allowing 9/11 families to sue Saudi Arabia for damages. (Currently it is mostly illegal for American citizens to sue a foreign country.)

Saudi Arabia owns something like 750 billion in U.S. assets. I couldn't find any information on what property, if any, the USA has in Saudi Arabia.

What about that country that was home to 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers? Oh, we can't include them int he ban because Trump has business buddies over there.

They are US allies, and they cooperate with counterterrorism activities.

I think it was thought through though Maggie. Once the temporary ban is in effect, and the steady flow of people who may be questionable is halted, only then can the Administration start the refining process to fix the unintended negative consequences. Certainly they need to make sure the green card holders can come back as those people have already been thoroughly vetted. And they can also make adjustment for any other injustices occurring, but they need to be careful with that so as not to gut the policy for the purpose it is intended.

What makes you so sure that Trump will get rid of the ban on his own?

Which isnt occurring. What IS occurring is US immigration law is being prepared to finally be enforced (which makes sad pandas sad) and people from potentially dangerous countries are being temporarily blocked while a better vetting solution is put in place. You know...like Obama did in 2011 when you didnt say ****.

Stop deflecting. Trump is in the White House now. This is on Trump and those who choose to enable him. Not Obama.

Lets see...in the past week Trump has

Moved to enforce EXISTING US immigration laws promoting concepts ENDORSED BY and VOTED on by prominent democrats

and

imposed a temporary ban in Muslims from seven countries KNOWN to have a high risk of terrorism and an improper vetting system.

OHMYGAAAAAARSH!!! Wereallgonnadieeeeeeeee!!!!!

Yes...teh end to democracy is surely on the horizon.

:lamo

Exactly. This is nothing more than another "I hate Pres. Tump, but I don't why." thread...

For now you're not. At the rate we're going, give the extreme Right a few months to continue the course they're on, they just might try to classify those of us who use our First Amendment rights to speak out against them as enemies. Literal enemies.

For many weeks now even so-called liberals and progressives on this board have been rebuking people for making comparisons of Trump to awful authoritarian leaders of history. Well, can we now say that this guy is really impulsive and dangerous and just doesn't think things through?

This isn't the typical methodical approach of bigotry and xenophobia practices by Republicans like George Bush, this is a rash, slash-and-burn approach.

I fear many are like a frog in a gradually warming pot and don't sense that liberal democracy itself is in peril with this madman in office.

Where did you buy your tin foil hat?

I don't see anything in my post that says "I am sure" about anything. But so far Trump has demonstrated extraordinary common sense. So until he doesn't I'll give him benefit of the doubt.

Give him the benefit of the doubt?? After what he's done to this country in just one week?

"Hey, I'm not going to order my firefighters to put out that massive forest fire, because I wanna give it a chance!"

He spectacularly blew his chance. He does not deserve another chance. I guess you would have wanted to give Stalin or Pol Pot a chance, too.

P.S. You also claimed that "Trump has demonstrated extraordinary common sense." Such a tone-deaf comment further solidifies your lack of credibility.

(Inb4 you or someone else accuses me of exaggerating or "being ridiculous." My apologies for actually knowing some history.)

Overly dramatic.

I know about the EPA and the immigration stuff... what specifically has he done to be making such hysterics?

Pol Pot and Stalin?

Why not just accuse Trump of being a Sith Lord?

It is also often the first step towards them. Trump didn't even wait a week.

My prediction what will happen. Trump will continue to believe he can lead as president like an unchecked boss/king will have him run into the judicial wall. I don't think the republicans in congress will ever grow enough balls to confront him but the lifetime appointees of the judicial branch will slap him down. Even conservative ones... as trump keeps overreaching. Maybe the GOP members in congress will grow them once the judicial branch sets him in his place so they don't feel so all alone on the right.

Then the petulant child in chief will lose his crap because he was told "NO!" Something the silver spoon brat isn't accustomed to. And his tantrums will boil to a point too big for a tweet to handle and we will all get a view of it IRL.

No...what this IS about is a parade of hypocrites who didnt say dick about how unfair life is when Obama did the exact same thing.

Its not about Obama. Its really not about Trump. Its about...well...you.
