If the GOP is to thrive, it NEEDS a new, viable, slightly left of center, opposition

Hillary was far too corrupt... Obama was far to anti-American and Anti-White... Bernie is too socialist and Far-Left...

So, we ended up with a Trump Victory, as the candidate who was just a bit less corrupt, extremist, and crazy, than the worse alternatives.

So far, Trump appears to be doing an Okay job.

Yet, without a viable opposition political party, to give the American people the chance to pick the better of two positive, good candidates...

Instead of the Less-Corrupt of two BAD Options...

Without an viable opposition to keep the GOP honest and working for the best interests of the American common people, rather than themselves and the wealthy elites...

Without something reasonable to fill the political vacuum left by the Identity Politics collapse of the Democratic Party...

The absolute power given to the GOP will Corrupt the GOP from within in a decade or less!

We, America, NEEDS a slightly left of center, pragmatic, centrist, Race-BLIND, non-Identity Politics, Alternative Political Party to the GOP.

The GOP needs that opposition party, even if many of their members don't yet understand that need!

The GOP, to achieve long term victory, needs their candidates held to a much higher standard than just defeating the corruption we saw in Hillary and Bernie.

The GOP needs their candidates to be just slightly better, more honorable, of higher integrity, with a just tad bit better plan for their administration... than a very good opposition party candidate!

Conservatives always talk about how in business, competition makes the whole market stronger...

Well?

What America needs is a third party to occupy the space between the far left and the far right. That way the nutcases can be marginalized.

What America needs is a third party to occupy the space between the far left and the far right. That way the nutcases can be marginalized.

Isn't that exactly what the OP says?

It is not really a big accomplishment to be seen as less corrupt than Hillary.

Though I would state, so far, Trump appears to be much more of an outside the establishment reformer, than the Far-Leftie painted "Nut Job".

I have Guarded, Skeptical, Cynical Hopes for the Trump Administration.

What America Needs is the OWLs! It will drawn the excess of both the far-Right and the far-Left into the realm of best-interests of MOST Americans.

I think that Republicans got the competition from Trump. He is not close to a conservative. But I think he saw that he had a better shot in the Republican primaries than in the Democratic primary which Hillary had sewn up before the start.

It will be an interesting test to see what Trump will be able to get done. Democrats will oppose him reflexively because he is not one of them, and many Republicans will not back his policies for a variety of reasons. Including the fact that he beat several of them in the primary and insulted McCain who will stick it to him whenever he gets the chance.

Re: If the GOP is to thrive, it NEEDS a new, viable, slightly left of center, opposit

So, even though Trump will be the incumbant, does that mean the truly Conservative Wing of the GOP will field a competive and BETTER candidate against Trump in 2020, and competitively BEAT Trump in the Primary for the GOP nomination?

The majority of the GOP electorate giving up the advantages of cross over votes and the Presidential Incumbancy would be a hell of a thing to see!

Does Trump then emulate Teddy Roosevelt and run on a "Bull Moose" ticket?

See what I mean about a New, working People's Party?

After all, showing the nation that you're just a wee bit less corrupt than Hillary, really isn't much of an accomplishment!

We need a politics which is not centered on Identity Groups, and one which does give U.S. the option to pick the better of two GOOD, viable, positive options!

That will drive both side of our two party system to continually drive to create better candidates, rather than expose the worse corruption in the opposition.

What you are saying is quite plausible. For that to happen Trump has to be stymied by congress. However if that happens my sense if that you will see a big falloff in voter turnout by people who voted for Trump in 2016. My sense is that is the entire gameplan of the democrats. Not much different than Republicans used in 2009. Now people can debate if Dems lost all of those seats because of what they did, i.e. ACA but they need to beieve it was due to Repubs tying their hands.

Not sure how any of this winds up.

I think it ends with the Democratic Party going the way of the Whiggs, and a new, slightly left of center, pragmatic, non-Identity Politics, political party replacing the Democratic Party as the 2nd of the two major political parties.

And I think that will be a good thing for the vast majority of Americans.

Re: If the GOP is to thrive, it NEEDS a new, viable, slightly left of center, opposit

Both parties are corrupt. The solution can only come from removing the money from campaigning.

Remove payments to media.
Remove payments to PAC's.
Remove donations to candidates.

Of course, none of that would ever happen...so we're stuck with voting for the least of the two corrupt candidates. Luckily, that political gangster Hillary Clinton made it easy for those who weren't her blindly loyal sycophants.
